Energy Associate (Attorney)

 Job Description:

We are working with a highly regarded, full-service law firm seeking an Energy Associate to join its growing Energy Industry team in Albany, New York City, or New Haven.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an attorney with regulatory, administrative law, or litigation experience who is interested in developing or expanding an energy-focused practice. Prior energy experience is preferred but not required. The group is open to attorneys with strong research, writing, advocacy, and analytical skills who are eager to learn this dynamic and rapidly evolving area of law.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced attorneys and sophisticated clients across a broad range of regulatory, permitting, compliance, enforcement, and litigation matters affecting the energy industry.

Representative matters include:

  • Advising clients on regulatory issues before state and federal administrative agencies
  • Supporting the development, permitting, and siting of energy projects
  • Assisting with regulatory compliance and enforcement matters
  • Conducting legal research and analysis involving statutes, regulations, agency decisions, and emerging industry developments
  • Drafting administrative petitions, agency comments, pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery materials, and other legal documents
  • Participating in litigation and dispute resolution matters involving energy-related issues

Representative Clients

The team represents a diverse range of participants across the energy sector, including:

  • Electric generation facilities
  • Battery energy storage developers and owners
  • Transmission companies
  • Electric, gas, and water utilities
  • Energy service companies
  • Submetering providers
  • Large commercial and industrial energy users

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admission in New York or ability to obtain admission
  • 3+ years of regulatory, administrative law, and/or litigation experience
  • Energy law experience preferred but not required
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal communication and client service abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing exceptional work
  • Collaborative, professional, and adaptable approach

Compensation

Salary may vary depending upon experience and location. Anticipated ranges are: 

Albany, NY: $130,000 – $175,000 New York, NY: $148,000 – $185,000
