Municipal Law & Litigation Associate (Attorney)

We are working with a highly regarded, full-service law firm seeking a Municipal Law & Litigation Associate to join its growing Hartford office.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a litigation attorney interested in building a sophisticated practice representing municipalities, local agencies, boards, and private clients in a broad range of litigation, regulatory, land use, and administrative law matters. The role offers substantial responsibility, direct client interaction, and the opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys and firm leadership.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will work on a diverse mix of municipal law, land use, regulatory, and litigation matters, while also supporting broader litigation needs across the firm's practice.

Representative responsibilities include:

  • Representing municipalities, boards, commissions, agencies, and private clients in litigation, administrative proceedings, and hearings
  • Assisting with zoning, planning, subdivision, permitting, and other land use matters
  • Advising clients on regulatory compliance and governmental issues affecting public sector entities
  • Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, memoranda, contracts, and regulatory submissions
  • Conducting legal research and collaborating with senior attorneys on litigation strategy and client counseling
  • Supporting matters involving property tax appeals, public health issues, governance matters, and other issues unique to municipalities
  • Counseling clients on local, state, and federal regulations affecting governmental operations
  • Participating in all phases of litigation, from case assessment through resolution

Additional Litigation Exposure

In addition to municipal and land use work, the associate will have the opportunity to support matters involving:

  • Creditors' Rights Litigation
  • Landlord-Tenant Litigation
  • Insurance Defense Litigation

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar required
  • 2+ years of litigation experience
  • Experience with municipal law, land use, zoning, administrative law, or governmental matters preferred
  • Experience with creditors' rights, landlord-tenant litigation, and/or insurance defense litigation is a plus
  • Familiarity with Connecticut state courts, administrative agencies, or local land use boards preferred
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal communication and client service abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Professional, collaborative, and adaptable approach
