Job Description:
We are working with a highly regarded Connecticut litigation boutique seeking an experienced Legal Assistant / Litigation Paralegal to join its team in Western Connecticut.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced legal professional who enjoys the variety of a hybrid role combining legal administrative support with substantive litigation paralegal responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a paralegal background and experience supporting a busy litigation practice, with medical malpractice or healthcare litigation experience particularly valued. Candidates with strong experience in other areas of litigation, including professional liability, insurance defense, or commercial litigation, are also encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
The Legal Assistant / Litigation Paralegal will provide comprehensive administrative and substantive litigation support, including:
- Preparing, proofreading, formatting, and revising pleadings, correspondence, discovery materials, motions, briefs, and other legal documents
- Managing attorney calendars, scheduling depositions, meetings, court appearances, and other case-related deadlines
- Monitoring court deadlines and maintaining accurate case calendars and docketing information
- Coordinating with clients, opposing counsel, courts, experts, medical providers, and other parties
- Assisting with electronic court filings and maintaining organized electronic and physical case files
- Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence and assisting with other day-to-day administrative needs
- Reviewing, organizing, and summarizing medical records, deposition transcripts, discovery materials, and other case documents
- Preparing medical chronologies, case summaries, and other substantive litigation materials
- Assisting with written discovery, including gathering and organizing information and preparing draft responses
- Coordinating medical records, authorizations, subpoenas, and related documentation
- Assisting attorneys with deposition, mediation, hearing, and trial preparation
- Organizing exhibits, expert materials, and other case-related documents
- Communicating with experts and assisting with the coordination of expert discovery and case preparation
- Tracking matters and deadlines from inception through resolution
- Providing additional administrative and paralegal support as needed in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least four years of law firm experience, preferably supporting a litigation practice
- Prior paralegal experience strongly preferred
- Medical malpractice, healthcare litigation, professional liability, insurance defense, and/or commercial litigation experience highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of litigation procedures and court filing requirements
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent calendar management, scheduling, and deadline-management abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines
- The ability to remain organized and effective in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach and willingness to assist wherever needed
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal document and case-management technology

The position is based in a small, collegial office where teamwork, communication, and a willingness to pitch in are important. The firm maintains a five-day-per-week in-office schedule and offers a 40-hour work week.

Base Salary: $65,000–$70,000
