 Job Description:

We are working with an established, highly regarded commercial law firm seeking a Litigation Associate with at least 3 years of Connecticut litigation experience to join its Stamford office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney interested in handling sophisticated banking, financial services, and commercial litigation matters while enjoying the collegiality and accessibility of a smaller office backed by the resources of an established New York City-based law firm.

The successful candidate will work closely with a litigation partner whose practice encompasses banking and lender liability defense, complex commercial disputes, real estate litigation, and creditor's rights matters. The position offers meaningful responsibility, direct partner interaction, and opportunities to further develop litigation skills across a diverse range of substantive matters.

Practice Areas & Responsibilities

The Litigation Associate will assist with a broad range of litigation matters, including:

  • Banking & Financial Services Litigation: Representing banks, financial institutions, and mortgage servicers in lender liability disputes, regulatory compliance matters, and claims involving federal and state consumer financial protection laws, including the FCRA, FDCPA, RESPA, and CUTPA.
  • Commercial & Business Litigation: Handling contract disputes, business torts, fraud claims, creditor's rights matters, and commercial disputes involving financing arrangements and transactions governed by the Uniform Commercial Code.
  • Real Estate Litigation: Assisting with commercial foreclosure proceedings, loan enforcement actions, workouts, replevin matters, and other real estate-related disputes.
  • Additional Commercial Matters: Supporting litigation involving distribution and supply agreements, restrictive covenants, and other contractual disputes across various industries.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, memoranda, and other litigation documents.
  • Conducting legal research and preparing substantive legal analyses.
  • Managing written discovery, document production, and discovery compliance.
  • Preparing for and participating in depositions, hearings, and court appearances.
  • Assisting with trial preparation and proceedings.
  • Collaborating directly with partners and other attorneys to develop litigation strategies and effectively represent clients.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • At least 3 years of substantive litigation experience practicing in Connecticut.
  • Active admission to the Connecticut Bar is required.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Experience drafting pleadings, motions, and other substantive litigation documents.
  • Familiarity with Connecticut state court procedures and litigation practice.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and case management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team.

Experience in banking litigation, commercial litigation, financial services litigation, or creditor's rights matters is particularly relevant, but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

The firm offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including:

  • Base Salary: $145,000 – $170,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Flexible Hybrid Schedule: Hybrid arrangements for attorneys within reasonable commuting distance of Stamford, with consideration of more flexible schedules, potentially requiring approximately one day per week in the office, for attorneys residing farther away.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Disability insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Firm-paid continuing legal education (CLE) courses and attorney registration fees.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

For attorneys seeking sophisticated litigation work without sacrificing flexibility or a collegial working environment, this position offers an appealing combination of professional development and work-life balance.

The firm's Stamford office provides a close-knit, collaborative setting with direct access to experienced attorneys, while its larger New York City office offers the resources and established client relationships of a respected commercial law practice.
