Northwest Talent Solutions is partnering with a national construction and engineering organization to identify an MEP Design Engineer to join its growing team in Kansas City, Missouri.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy working at the intersection of design, construction, and complex building systems, supporting projects from preconstruction planning through commissioning. You will collaborate closely with construction teams, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure mechanical and electrical systems are designed and implemented effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
The MEP Design Engineer will support project teams by:
Developing mechanical and electrical estimates based on program and schematic design information
Performing systems analysis and evaluating MEP design options during preconstruction
Assisting with bid analysis and subcontractor selection processes
Coordinating mechanical and electrical scopes of work during project bidding and execution
Supporting project sequencing and scheduling for complex building systems
Reviewing design documents and identifying constructability or quality concerns
Performing jobsite inspections to ensure work aligns with specifications and project standards
Assisting with shop drawing and submittal reviews to ensure contract compliance
Supporting the commissioning process, including development of pre-functional checklists and testing procedures
Collaborating with project teams to optimize building systems and improve project delivery
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will bring technical engineering knowledge combined with construction project experience.
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred:
5+ years of experience in MEP engineering, construction engineering, or related field
Experience supporting commercial or complex construction projects
Familiarity with construction management processes and building systems coordination
Experience assisting with system design evaluation, commissioning, and constructability review
