Position Overview

Northwest Talent Solutions (NWTS) is partnering with a global manufacturing organization to identify a high-impact Electrical & Controls Engineer II to support a 24/7 continuous manufacturing facility.

This is a plant-critical controls engineering role, focused on improving automation performance, strengthening reliability, and delivering full-cycle electrical and controls projects. The position blends day-to-day plant controls ownership with capital project execution, requiring strong PLC expertise, systems thinking, and the ability to deliver measurable operational results.

Key Responsibilities

Drive Equipment Reliability & Reduce Downtime

  • Implement electrical and controls engineering improvements that reduce unplanned downtime

  • Lead root-cause investigations to eliminate recurring electrical and automation issues

  • Support continuous operations with responsive, production-aware troubleshooting

Lead Full-Cycle Engineering Projects

  • Independently scope, justify, design, implement, and close out electrical and controls projects

  • Develop complete engineering documentation, including designs, calculations, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and commissioning plans

  • Manage vendors, contractors, and external engineering partners to ensure alignment with project goals

Optimize Controls & Automation Systems

  • Own and improve PLC, HMI, VFD, and industrial networked control systems

  • Identify performance gaps within plant automation and lead engineered solutions

  • Support controls modernization efforts, including drive replacements and system obsolescence mitigation

Enhance Safety & Standards Compliance

  • Support and strengthen electrical safety practices, including NFPA 70E compliance

  • Ensure electrical integrations and automation upgrades meet corporate engineering standards and regulatory requirements

Provide Technical Leadership & Plant Support

  • Mentor electricians, technicians, and junior engineers to elevate plant controls capability

  • Communicate technical risks, project updates, and performance impacts to plant leadership

  • Work closely with electrical supervisors and operations teams on daily controls execution

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

  • Minimum 3+ years of electrical and controls engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment

  • Demonstrated ability to support a 24/7 continuous operations facility

  • Hands-on experience with:

    • Allen-Bradley PLCs

    • HMIs

    • VFDs

    • Industrial electrical systems and controls

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and technical specifications

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and project management skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred / Ideal Experience

  • Controls-heavy plant environment (day-to-day controls ownership)

  • Coordinated drive system experience (implementation or replacement of obsolete drives)

  • Industrial networking and control system integration

  • Experience balancing capital projects and daily plant support

  • Exposure to safety standards and compliance frameworks

  • Ability to influence and mentor without direct authority

This role supports a 24/7 continuous manufacturing operation and is 100% on-site. The position requires responsiveness to production needs, strong collaboration with plant teams, and accountability for controls reliability across all assets.
