About the job Senior Accountant
This is a hybrid position with one of Canadas top 20 accounting firms. While the role may transition to a hybrid model in the future, our client will only consider candidates located in Ontario.
The ideal candidate will have experience in both accounting/tax and assurance.
The role is divided as follows: 40% focused on review and some audit work, and 60% dedicated to tax, accounting, compilations, and a bit of corporate finance.

As a Senior Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
- Independently completing audit, review, and compilation files, along with related tax preparation.
- Preparing complex sections of files.
- Preparing personal tax returns.
- Preparing corporate tax returns and relevant tax checklists.
- Overseeing and reviewing the work of junior and intermediate staff.
- Coaching junior and intermediate accountants, providing guidance and expertise as needed.
- Building effective, long-lasting working relationships with operational client contacts.
- Ensuring the accuracy of work completed by junior and intermediate team members.
- Responding efficiently to requests from clients, managers, and partners.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Planning, executing, and completing files.
- Understanding technical standards with the expected level of assistance and supervision.
- Building effective client relationships on assignments.
- Managing allocated projects, including time management.
- Addressing client, manager, and partner requests and suggestions related to assignments.
- Supervising and training junior and intermediate staff.
- Maintaining technical knowledge of IFRS, ASPE, and CAS by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and networking.
- Contributing to team efforts by achieving related results as needed.
Summary of Experience
- 4+ years of public accounting experience, with demonstrated expertise in audit and tax.
Requirements
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to support team members and their goals.
- A solid commitment to quality and accuracy.
- A completed University Accounting degree and CPA designation, or substantial progress towards it.
- Development of a business advisor mindset is essential.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with ASPE, IFRS, and CAS to handle complex areas of engagements.
- Experience with ASPE is required; IFRS knowledge is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective communication with clients, managers, and partners.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, capable of managing multiple engagements simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Caseware, Jazz-it, Tax Prep, QuickBooks, and Simply Accounting.
