Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to join the team. The ideal candidate has experience working in a public accounting environment and the ability to manage multiple client engagements at once. The bookkeeper is responsible for undertaking various tasks to complete the full accounting cycle of a file. This includes preparing the financial statements, reconciliation of accounts, performing appropriate payroll calculations, and assisting with personal and corporate tax returns.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Perform bookkeeping duties, including;
    1. Recording transactions in appropriate accounting software (QuickBooks or CaseWare)
    2. Preparing adjusting journal entries
    3. Preparing monthly bank reconciliations
    4. Calculating source deductions and prepare monthly payroll
    5. Reconciling inter-company accounts
    6. Preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements from QuickBooks upon clients requests
    7. Analyzing general ledgers to investigate any discrepancies
    8. Preparing and filing HST returns
    9. Preparing and filing T4, T5, EHT and WSIB
    10. Calculating depreciation income tax accruals and reconcile inter-company accounts
  • Understand technical standards, with the expected level of assistance and supervision
  • Effectively work with CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) to resolve various tax issues on behalf of clients
  • Work directly with clients on bookkeeping matters and respond effectively to client requests
  • Recognize relevant financial statement issues from basic analysis and provide appropriate recommendations to managers and clients
  • Other duties, as required

Summary of Experience

  • 3+ years of full cycle bookkeeping experience
  • Experience in preparing HST and payroll filings
  • Experience in preparing T1 and T2 tax returns is preferred
  • Experience in preparing bookkeeping for stock trading investment accounts is an asset
  • Experience in preparing Notice of Reader and working papers using CaseWare is an asset

Requirements:

  • College degree
  • Must be proficient in using QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of tax programs (Tax Prep or Cantax) is preferred
  • Working knowledge of CaseWare/Jazz-it is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Strong ability to pay attention to details
  • Strong ability to handle multi-tasks in a fast-paced working environment
