About the job Bookkeeper
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to join the team. The ideal candidate has experience working in a public accounting environment and the ability to manage multiple client engagements at once. The bookkeeper is responsible for undertaking various tasks to complete the full accounting cycle of a file. This includes preparing the financial statements, reconciliation of accounts, performing appropriate payroll calculations, and assisting with personal and corporate tax returns.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Perform bookkeeping duties, including;
- Recording transactions in appropriate accounting software (QuickBooks or CaseWare)
- Preparing adjusting journal entries
- Preparing monthly bank reconciliations
- Calculating source deductions and prepare monthly payroll
- Reconciling inter-company accounts
- Preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements from QuickBooks upon clients requests
- Analyzing general ledgers to investigate any discrepancies
- Preparing and filing HST returns
- Preparing and filing T4, T5, EHT and WSIB
- Calculating depreciation income tax accruals and reconcile inter-company accounts
- Understand technical standards, with the expected level of assistance and supervision
- Effectively work with CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) to resolve various tax issues on behalf of clients
- Work directly with clients on bookkeeping matters and respond effectively to client requests
- Recognize relevant financial statement issues from basic analysis and provide appropriate recommendations to managers and clients
- Other duties, as required
Summary of Experience
- 3+ years of full cycle bookkeeping experience
- Experience in preparing HST and payroll filings
- Experience in preparing T1 and T2 tax returns is preferred
- Experience in preparing bookkeeping for stock trading investment accounts is an asset
- Experience in preparing Notice of Reader and working papers using CaseWare is an asset
Requirements:
- College degree
- Must be proficient in using QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online
- Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook
- Working knowledge of tax programs (Tax Prep or Cantax) is preferred
- Working knowledge of CaseWare/Jazz-it is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Strong ability to pay attention to details
- Strong ability to handle multi-tasks in a fast-paced working environment
