About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to support capital and construction projects for one of our clients in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. This roles will support projects throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and will work closely with project managers, engineering teams, contractors, and consultants.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in electrical engineering within utility or industrial environments, along with experience supporting project execution.

This is a contract position with an anticipated start date of November 1, 2026, and an end date of December 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension. The estimated effort is 37.5 hours per week, working Monday to Friday, standard business hours

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to Project Managers on various projects
• Perform engineering due diligence for project planning and delivery
• Facilitate and/or complete project risk management including risk identification and associated mitigation
• Perform project scope verifications, field verifications, engineering data gathering, and associated detailed project planning activities
• Review tender packages prepared by consultants and contractors
• Prepare tender packages and Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
• Review shop drawings prepared by contractors and vendor
• Provide technical input as a design team member and contribute to technical documentation
• Direct and supervise consultants and contractors during project execution
• Oversee quality planning and associated inspection plans for assigned work
• Review and approve consultant reports
• Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) as required
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction progress and support site teams
• Facilitate effective communication among internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders
• Review and approve technical and commissioning documentation
• Assist with project close-out activities and asset transition to operations
• Promote continuous improvement through lessons learned and best practices
• Submit timesheets and required documentation in accordance with project requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL)
• Minimum of 10 years of experience overseeing project engineering in an electrical environment
• Experience in project scope definition, engineering data gathering, and associated detailed project planning activities
• Experience leading project risk identifications and mitigations
• Experience with on site project monitoring at remote locations
• Experience in design, managing construction contracts and commissioning
• Experience in preparing project estimates
• Experience with project quality and inspection programs
• Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to adapt to dynamic work environments and changing project demands

Additional Details

• A valid Canadian driver's license with an acceptable driver's abstract is required
• A criminal record check will be required
• Candidates must be fit-for-work and meet client-specific site requirements
• Work will be based in St. John's, NL, with potential for hybrid arrangements
• Periodic travel within Newfoundland and Labrador may be required.
