Farm Manager (Cattle Farming Focus)

Location: Botswana

Position Type: Full-Time

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, or a any other Agriculture, Agribusiness related field is advantageous. Additional qualifications or certifications in farm management are a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in farm management, specifically in cattle farming, with a proven track record of successfully overseeing farm operations.
  • Strong leadership and management skills to effectively lead and supervise farm staff and laborers.
  • In-depth knowledge of various agricultural practices, with a specific focus on cattle farming, including breeding, nutrition, and health. Understanding of local conditions and requirements in Botswana is essential.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management: Proficiency in budget planning and financial management to ensure efficient farm operations within allocated resources.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment, especially those relevant to cattle farming. Knowledge of irrigation systems is an advantage.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills to plan and execute cattle care, breeding, and health management efficiently.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to identify and resolve challenges in cattle farming, ensuring optimal herd health and productivity.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with agricultural regulations and compliance requirements in Botswana, including environmental and safety standards specific to cattle farming.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to interact with farm staff, suppliers, and local authorities. Proficiency in English and Setswana is required.
  • Valid Driver's License: A valid driver's license is essential, with a clean driving record.
  • Valid Passport: Must possess a valid passport

Responsibilities:

  • Cattle Farm Operations: Oversee day-to-day cattle farm operations, including herd management, breeding, health care, and maintenance of farm infrastructure.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise farm staff, ensuring a safe and productive working environment for cattle farming.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the cattle farm budget, allocate resources effectively, and optimize cost-efficiency.
  • Cattle Care: Implement best practices for cattle breeding, nutrition, health care, and disease prevention to maximize herd health and productivity.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the cattle farm complies with all local regulations, permits, and environmental standards relevant to cattle farming.
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Oversee maintenance and repair of farm equipment and infrastructure, particularly those used in cattle farming.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of cattle farm activities, financial transactions, and herd health.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on cattle farm performance, challenges, and proposed improvements.
