Chief Investment Officer (CIO) – Boutique Asset Management, Hong Kong

Role Summary

The CIO leads investment strategy for a boutique asset management firm (AUM < RMB$100bn) based in Hong Kong, managing both private funds and public funds (QDII). Hands-on role overseeing equities, fixed income, and multi-asset portfolios for Mainland/HK clients. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Investment strategy: Design asset allocation and strategies for private funds (PE/hedge/QDLP) and public funds (mutual funds/QDII via HK), leveraging HKEX/Stock Connect/A-shares access.
  • Private funds: Structure bespoke mandates for HNW/institutional LPs; regulatory filings, performance reporting, liquidity management.
  • Public funds: Oversee CSRC-approved products launched via HK platform; NAV calculation, disclosure, retail distribution.
  • Portfolio oversight: Hands-on management of small-scale portfolios (HK$50bn); stock selection, risk control, rebalancing.
  • Research team: Lead 3-5 analysts for China/HK equity/bond research; manager due diligence for external allocations.
  • HK regulatory: SFC Type 9 compliance, client suitability, disclosure for HK-domiciled funds serving China investors.
  • Client/business: Pitch to Mainland SOEs/HNW, HK family offices; support fundraising via HK subsidiary.

Requirements

  • 8-12+ years buy-side experience at Chinese/HK boutique AM or private fund manager.
  • Proven track record in private & public funds (CSRC/AMAC/SFC licensed).
  • Fluent Mandarin (oral/written) mandatory; fluent English/Cantonese.
  • CFA/FRM; expertise in A/H-shares, REITs, QDII/QDLP.
  • Entrepreneurial for small team (5-10 people); HK asset mgmt experience essential.
