Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Lawyer Trade and Customs Manager to lead advisory services related to customs compliance, international trade regulations, import/export processes, and trade-related legal matters. This role is responsible for managing client engagements, providing legal guidance on customs and tariff issues, and supporting clients in navigating regulatory requirements for cross-border transactions.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in trade and customs law, experience in working with regulatory agencies, and the ability to lead advisory engagements for multinational and local clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal and strategic advice on trade compliance, customs duties, tariff classifications, rules of origin, import/export regulations, and bonded warehousing.
- Manage engagements involving customs audits, rulings, and post-clearance disputes with regulatory authorities.
- Assist clients in evaluating customs implications of their supply chain structures and business operations.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies such as the Bureau of Customs and other trade-related agencies to support client needs and resolve issues.
- Review import/export documentation, contracts, and trade agreements for regulatory compliance and legal risk.
- Lead legal research, prepare memoranda, and draft responses to regulatory assessments or notices.
- Supervise junior lawyers and associates, providing guidance and quality review of deliverables.
- Contribute to business development efforts, including client proposals, presentations, and regulatory updates.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB or JD); must be a licensed lawyer in good standing.
- At least 7-9 years of relevant legal experience in trade and customs, either in a law firm, multinational company, or consulting environment.
- Strong knowledge of Philippine customs laws, tariff codes, international trade agreements, and related regulatory frameworks.
- Experience dealing with customs audits, post-entry assessments, and compliance documentation.
- Excellent legal writing, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing teams and client relationships.
- Familiarity with ASEAN trade agreements, customs modernization initiatives, and supply chain compliance is a plus.
