JOB SUMMARY:

The Account Trainer 1 will have dual reporting to the Account Manager and the Senior Manager Coding Quality and Education. Responsibilities include education on diagnosis and or procedures for the designated specialty areas including applicable Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS). The Account Trainer utilizes the detailed analyst report to formulate education materials which are then utilized to educate the coders on the prevention of errors. The Account Trainer 1 serves as the liaison between the operations and QA at the account level. The account trainer serves to train the coders in capturing accurate codes and quality improvement. The Account Trainer 1 is also responsible for On the Job Training (OJT) of newly assigned account coders

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • Review the errors in coding from the analysis report and research and or reference check the errors utilizing the medical records for diagnosis and procedures using ICD-10 and/or CPT coding conventions
  • Develop education materials based on error analysis (PP, lectures, assessments)
  • Schedule daily meeting with staff on error assignment and review errors (starting with the top errors) utilizing education materials and client charts
  • Provide education on coding practice conventions and clinical documentation for code assignment
  • Educate coders on the correlation of Pathology, Laboratory, Radiology and /or other Physician Consultation where applicable and coding queries where necessary
  • Consult with Training Management Department. Account Manager and Project Management to prioritize the needs of the team
  • Communicate findings via report writing to Account Manager, Project Management team, Training and QA department.
  • Report must include attendees, subjects discussed
  • Schedule a weekly meeting to discuss analyzed trended findings and next steps with Account Manager, Project
  • Management team, Training Manager, and QA Manager
  • Although designated as such, an account trainer could be called upon to assist in coding or auditing production when a need arises (ie month end).

B. SECONDARY DUTIES

  • Mentor and train new coders assigned to the department for OJT.
  • Coding abstraction, LCDs and NCD coverage education
  • Coordinate the review of new employees with auditing staff for immediate performance feedback to ensure quality and quantity of work performed.

C. OTHER DUTIES

  • Be responsible for review and education of all new guidelines issued by client and communicating these guidelines to the QA team and compliance department for approval
  • Collaborate with edit builder (if applicable)
  • Other tasks/functions that may be assigned by the company as per business requirement; these may change from time to time to reflect the changing requirement of your position and our business.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES)
Education and/or Experience:

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, disease processes and surgical techniques
  • Participates in continuing education programs to affectively apply ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4, HCPCS and PQRS (if applicable) coding guidelines.
  • One (1) year of coding experience with certification in CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC, COC, CIC with extensive training in coding desirable

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent communication in Spoken American English.
  • Good analytical skills with computer proficiency in MS Excel and MS Powerpoint and the ability to adapt to project specific software, if any. Competence in Report Generation is a must.
    Production and Quality Orientation; team management, adherence to schedule, Delivery of team targets, service level components, quality and indicators.
  • Feedback and Mentoring; coaching and feedback along with the training and development of coders
  • Client Orientation Skills; Ensure clients SLAs is met including service delivery, timely report and quality control.
  • Foresight; Must be able to recommend and implement process improvement and innovation techniques and practices. Must handle many tasks simultaneously and still be available to handle new tasks and problems that arise unexpectedly.
  • Team Player; ability to interface on a professional level at all times with a variety of different personalities and positions. Must be a role-model to the staff.
