About the Role
A government agency is seeking a MuleSoft Architect / Software Developer to support MuleSoft integration projects for the Department of Economic Security (DES). This role involves leading the design, development, and optimization of MuleSoft systems while working in an Agile environment. The ideal candidate has hands-on MuleSoft development experience, expertise in integration architecture, and a strong background in API management.
Key Responsibilities
- MuleSoft Development: Design, implement, and optimize MuleSoft integrations using Mule 4x, RAML, and OpenAPI.
- API & Integration Management: Build RESTful and SOAP APIs, configure API Gateway policies (security, throttling, rate limiting).
- Error Handling & Transformation: Implement DataWeave transformations, error handling strategies, validation, message filtering, and flow controls.
- Security & Compliance: Implement OAuth 2.0, SAML, OpenID Connect for secure authentication.
- CI/CD & Deployment: Utilize Git, Maven, Azure DevOps, or similar CI/CD tools for development and deployment.
- Cloud & Messaging Systems: Work with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and messaging queues such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ.
- Collaboration & Agile Development: Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and collaborate with internal teams and vendors.
- Code Reviews & Mentorship: Provide guidance and support for other developers in MuleSoft best practices.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Implement logging and monitoring tools such as ELK Stack, MuleSoft Monitoring to track system performance.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 8+ years of programming experience, with 5+ years as a MuleSoft Architect/Developer.
- Strong knowledge of the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (API Manager, Runtime Manager, Exchange).
- Expertise in API design using RAML/OpenAPI and building integrations with Salesforce, databases, FTP, JMS.
- Strong understanding of integration patterns (batch processing, pub/sub, point-to-point, service orchestration).
- Experience with SQL databases and OOP languages (Java, C#).
- Ability to obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card and pass a 7-year HireRight background check.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect or MuleSoft Certified Developer I/II.
- Experience working with government agencies or large-scale enterprise integration projects.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience with Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience with automated testing and deployment strategies.

- This role supports Department of Economic Security (DES) DTS OSM, AtoZ MuleSoft Projects.
- Requires collaboration with MuleSoft teams, vendors, and internal development staff.
