Position Summary:
The role involves providing clinical support to healthcare providers, ensuring efficient patient care and maintaining clinic flow. The ideal candidate will have experience in a healthcare setting and possess excellent communication, organizational, and patient care skills. The candidate will assist with medical procedures, collect and document patient information, and respond to emergency situations as necessary.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Accurately collect and document patient information, maintain patient records, and compile medical data as needed.
- Ensure that patient medication and immunization records are up-to-date.
- Recognize symptoms requiring prompt intervention and act appropriately.
- Assist with patient transport within the facility.
- Provide support for routine exams, treatments, and minor office surgeries.
- Perform specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT) following established protocols.
- Assist with radiology exams if competencies are met.
- Provide immunizations and injections as ordered by the provider.
- Support clinic flow and patient care duties, working collaboratively with the clinic nurse and provider.
- Assist in identifying patients overdue for immunizations and preventive health maintenance.
- Perform basic life support as certified.
- Provide cross-coverage for peers to ensure efficient patient flow through the department.
- Participate in staff meetings and apply information to daily responsibilities.
- Report changes in patient conditions, unusual incidents, and breaches in safety protocols.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with department scheduling guidelines.
- Participate in unit goal setting and contribute to the departments operational success.
- Assist in training and mentoring peers when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- One of the following certifications required:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
- EMT III Current AK Certification
- Current AK Paramedic Certification
- Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
Experience:
- Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
Knowledge:
- Familiarity with clinic procedures and patient visit protocols.
- Understanding of age-appropriate vital signs and life-saving procedures.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to use various computer programs is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Proficient in operating medical equipment such as blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeters, EKG machines, and cardiac monitors.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
Abilities:
- Ability to use EMR systems and accurately record patient data.
- Interact effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
