Position Title: Cytotechnologist

Location: Liverpool, New York

Position Type: Full-Time

Shift Notes:

1st Shift (Client can be flexible with the hours, current staff starts anywhere from 05:00AM - 07:00AM) FULL-TIME

Position Summary:

The Cytotechnologist, under the medical direction of the pathologist and administrative direction of the Technical or Site Manager, is responsible for performing cytological procedures according to protocols approved by the NYS Department of Health. This role requires independent judgment and clinical responsibility, focusing on high-complexity testing. The Cytotechnologist will frequently interact with patients, healthcare professionals, pathologists, regulatory agencies, and laboratory personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform cytological procedures as per NYS Department of Health protocols.
  • Exercise independent judgment and responsibility in executing high-complexity tests.
  • Ensure quality in handling cytological specimens and accurate documentation.
  • Collaborate with hospital employees, physicians, pathologists, and laboratory staff.
  • Adapt to changing workloads, resolve problems, and manage stress efficiently.
  • Perform tasks requiring fine eye-hand coordination and distinguish differences in size, color, and brightness in microscopic objects.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and ensure laboratory instruments are functioning correctly.
  • Provide high standards of patient care, maintaining communication with healthcare teams.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to remain stationary or move between workstations.
  • Perform tasks that require the use of a computer and laboratory instruments.
  • Lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds.
  • Engage in tasks requiring fine motor skills, attention to detail, and distinguishing colors and shades.
  • Adapt to a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must hold a New York State Cytotechnologist license (NYSDOH).
  • Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology or a related area is required.
  • Must possess a New York State Department of Education license or limited permit.
  • BLS (AHA) certification required.
