Job Title: Occupational Therapist
Location: Bethel, Alaska
Position Summary:
We are seeking a full-time Occupational Therapist to provide quality care in both outpatient and inpatient settings, including occasional work in a Long Term Care facility. The position involves treating a wide range of patient age groups and diagnoses, consistent with the State of Alaskas scope of practice for occupational therapy. Responsibilities include conducting home visits, traveling to local villages, and frequently collaborating with medical providers. Strong didactic skills are essential due to Alaska's Direct Access privilege for occupational therapy. The ideal candidate will incorporate evidence-based medicine into patient care plans while exemplifying professional conduct, patient care ethics, and respect for cultural diversity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide occupational therapy care in outpatient, inpatient, and Long Term Care settings.
- Conduct home visits and village travel as needed.
- Collaborate frequently with medical providers to ensure comprehensive care.
- Develop and modify patient care plans based on evidence-based medicine and patient-specific considerations.
- Demonstrate respect for cultural diversity in patient care.
- Utilize Alaskas Direct Access privilege to assess and treat patients independently.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
- Experience: No minimum clinical experience required, but preferred.
- Licensing/Certification: Must be licensed in good standing as an OT in Alaska or another state (with licensure pending in Alaska). Must hold current NBCOT certification and BLS certification.
- Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret occupational therapy literature and medical documentation.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate with non-English speaking patients.
- Ability to compose accurate and clear patient care documentation.
- Experience working with diverse cultures is an asset.
Equipment/Tools Used:
- Office equipment (computer, phone, fax machine, copier)
- Standard occupational therapy equipment (hi-lo table, therapeutic exercise equipment, ultrasound, electric stimulation modalities, ADL training room).
- Village-based treatment supplies (theraband, exercise programs, etc.).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Periodic self-assessment
