Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Trauma Program Director (TPD) to lead and manage the Trauma Program in Salem, VA. The TPD is responsible for ensuring that all Trauma Center verification standards are met as required by the Virginia Department of Health and the Office of Emergency Services. This role involves overseeing the complete operational functions of the Trauma Program, including program assessment, planning, implementation, performance improvement, education, and marketing communications. The TPD will serve as a role model in trauma nursing practice, introducing and evaluating new approaches to ensure the highest standards of care for trauma patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Survey Readiness: Educate and prepare hospital staff for American College of Surgeons (ACS) verification and re-verification, ensuring compliance with the latest ACS guidelines.
- Clinical Activities: Coordinate trauma care management across the continuum, including the implementation of clinical protocols and practice management guidelines. Serve as a resource for clinical practice.
- Education Responsibilities: Lead professional staff development within the facility and region, participate in case reviews, implement practice guidelines, and direct community trauma education and prevention programs.
- Performance Improvement: Monitor clinical processes, outcomes, and system issues. Develop quality filters, audits, and case reviews to identify trends and sentinel events, and outline remedial actions.
- Administration: Manage the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the Trauma Program. Serve as a liaison to administration and represent the Trauma Program on various hospital and community committees.
- Supervision of the Trauma Registry: Oversee the collection, coding, and validation of data. Design the registry to support performance improvement activities, trend reports, and research while maintaining confidentiality.
- Consultant and Liaison: Act as a resource for staff across all departments and as a liaison for EMS agencies. Stabilize the complex network of disciplines involved in providing high-quality trauma care.
- Research: Engage in research projects, facilitating protocol design for accurate data collection and analysis. Distribute findings to enhance trauma care.
- Community and National Involvement: Participate in the development of trauma care systems at the community, state, or national level.
- Management: Lead and develop the Trauma Program team, ensuring adequate staffing, setting expectations, and evaluating performance. Apply policies consistently and equitably, and achieve departmental goals through effective team management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years of clinical nursing leadership experience in Trauma, Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, or other critical care areas in an acute care setting.
- Experience in coordinating multiple phases of care and managing diverse teams is highly desirable.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required.
- CEN or CCRN certification required within two years of accepting the position.
