Salary Midpoint: $85,685/annually (dependent on education and years of experience)
Job Overview:
The Cytology/Histology Laboratory Supervisor oversees both technical and non-technical activities in the assigned laboratory section(s), ensuring that testing is performed efficiently and effectively while maintaining compliance with system and regulatory standards. The Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day operations, supporting department policies and procedures, and providing technical expertise. This role also involves training and evaluating staff to meet business, financial, and service quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations of the Cytology/Histology laboratory section(s).
- Plan daily work schedules and assignments, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of results.
- Manage department responsibilities during staffing shortages or scheduled coverage.
- Ensure efficient testing operations in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Monitor department turnaround times and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain inventory and manage supplies for the department.
- Adhere to preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Serve as a technical resource for staff, assisting in problem resolution and patient complaint investigations.
- Train and evaluate lab staff to meet performance standards and support team development.
- Participate in hiring processes and make recommendations to improve operational efficiency.
- Verify staff competencies and perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Board Certified Cytotechnologist (CT) and/or Histotechnologist or Specialist in Cytology (SCT) (Required)
- Bachelors Degree in Laboratory Science (Required)
- Completion of MT/MLS (medical laboratory science) or CLS (clinical laboratory science) internship, MT (ASCP) or equivalent (Required)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field (5 years preferred)
- Four years of experience in a related discipline (Required)
- Five years of experience in a diversified hospital laboratory health system with previous supervisory experience (Strongly Preferred)
