Compensation: $62.00 - $65.00 per hour ($128,960 - $135,200 annually)
Job Overview
A leading healthcare organization in Northern New York is seeking an experienced Oncology Pharmacist to support its growing oncology program. This is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacist with specialized oncology expertise who is passionate about delivering high-quality cancer care, optimizing chemotherapy treatment plans, and collaborating closely with oncology providers and nursing teams.
The Oncology Pharmacist will play a critical role in chemotherapy management, medication safety, inventory oversight, regulatory compliance, and clinical consultation to ensure the best possible outcomes for oncology patients.
Responsibilities
Clinical Oncology Services
- Review and verify chemotherapy orders for accuracy, safety, and clinical appropriateness
- Evaluate treatment regimens against current clinical guidelines and evidence-based protocols
- Collaborate with oncology providers regarding dosing adjustments, treatment plans, and medication optimization
- Monitor cumulative lifetime doses and other treatment-related safety considerations
- Ensure appropriate diluents, concentrations, stability requirements, and beyond-use dating for chemotherapy preparations
- Participate in medication reconciliation and chemotherapy treatment planning
Oncology Pharmacy Operations
- Assist with chemotherapy inventory management and procurement planning
- Help maintain appropriate stock levels while minimizing medication waste
- Review pharmacy inventory regularly and remove expired or discontinued medications
- Promote formulary compliance and cost-effective medication utilization
- Work closely with pharmacy purchasing and operational staff to ensure medication availability
Regulatory & Quality Compliance
- Support compliance with USP 797, USP 800, and other applicable regulatory standards
- Assist in developing and maintaining policies, procedures, and best practices for sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and medication safety programs
- Serve as a pharmacy resource for oncology-related medication questions and clinical guidance
Qualifications
Required
- Current New York State Pharmacist License
- One of the following:
- Completion of a PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency, or
- Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP), or
- 1–5+ years of experience preparing and evaluating chemotherapy regimens
- Experience with oncology medications and chemotherapy protocols
- Knowledge of USP 797, USP 800, and sterile compounding regulations
- Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail
Preferred
- Hospital or health-system oncology pharmacy experience
- Experience collaborating directly with oncology physicians and nursing teams
- Familiarity with NCCN guidelines and oncology treatment pathways
