Overview

Our client, a well-established and growing organization in the real estate sector, is seeking a seasoned Financial Controller to lead and oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions. This is a leadership role suited for a hands-on professional with deep technical expertise and a strong background in property accounting.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with advanced knowledge of Yardi and a proven ability to manage financial operations in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full-cycle accounting function, including general ledger, AP/AR, and month-end close
  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Manage and optimize financial reporting within Yardi
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting team, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
  • Oversee property and portfolio-level reporting, including variance analysis and performance insights
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with senior leadership
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS/ASPE, tax regulations, and internal policies
  • Manage cash flow, treasury functions, and financial planning initiatives
  • Coordinate with external auditors and oversee the year-end audit process
  • Develop and implement internal controls, policies, and process improvements
  • Partner with operations and asset management teams to support strategic decision-making

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, with a strong focus on real estate or property management
  • Advanced, hands-on experience with Yardi (required)
  • CPA designation (or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards (IFRS or ASPE)
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to operate both strategically and hands-on
