Overview
Our client, a well-established and growing organization in the real estate sector, is seeking a seasoned Financial Controller to lead and oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions. This is a leadership role suited for a hands-on professional with deep technical expertise and a strong background in property accounting.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with advanced knowledge of Yardi and a proven ability to manage financial operations in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full-cycle accounting function, including general ledger, AP/AR, and month-end close
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage and optimize financial reporting within Yardi
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
- Oversee property and portfolio-level reporting, including variance analysis and performance insights
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with senior leadership
- Ensure compliance with IFRS/ASPE, tax regulations, and internal policies
- Manage cash flow, treasury functions, and financial planning initiatives
- Coordinate with external auditors and oversee the year-end audit process
- Develop and implement internal controls, policies, and process improvements
- Partner with operations and asset management teams to support strategic decision-making
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, with a strong focus on real estate or property management
- Advanced, hands-on experience with Yardi (required)
- CPA designation (or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards (IFRS or ASPE)
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Highly detail-oriented with the ability to operate both strategically and hands-on
