The Opportunity

We are partnering with a leading organisation in the utilities and geospatial technology space to secure a highly specialised AutoCAD Configuration & Electrical Standards Specialist.

This is a unique hybrid role that blends high-level CAD configuration expertise with electrical design knowledge, focused on building the digital backbone that enables efficient, standardised utility mains design.

You'll play a critical role in shaping how engineering teams design, document, and deliver electrical infrastructure—driving consistency, quality, and scalability across projects.

Key Responsibilities

AutoCAD Configuration & Standardisation

  • Configure and maintain AutoCAD templates (DWT) aligned to utility drafting standards
  • Define and enforce CAD standards across:
    • Layers, lineweights, linetypes, colours, plot styles
    • Text, dimensions, multileaders, annotation scales
    • Sheet layouts, title blocks, and viewports
  • Establish workflows for drawing setup, sheet organisation, and plotting/PDF outputs

Block Library Development (Electrical Utilities)

  • Develop and manage 2D/3D block libraries for electrical assets including:
    • Transformers, switchgear, kiosks, conduits, poles, protection devices
  • Implement best-practice block design:
    • Attributes, dynamic blocks, consistent insertion logic
  • Maintain naming conventions, version control, and distribution across teams

Equipment Specification Sheets

  • Support the creation of technical specification sheets covering:
    • Asset ratings, materials, performance, compliance
  • Collaborate with engineers and asset teams to ensure:
    • Real-world applicability
    • Maintainability and lifecycle alignment
  • Develop reusable templates and structured content libraries

About You

You are a CAD power user with real-world electrical domain experience, comfortable operating at both a technical configuration level and within engineering contexts.

Core Experience

  • Proven experience configuring AutoCAD in multi-user environments
  • Strong capability building and managing block libraries (dynamic blocks preferred)
  • Background in electrical utilities or infrastructure
  • Understanding of:
    • Electrical distribution assets
    • Utility design drawing packages
  • Experience producing or supporting technical/specification documentation
  • High attention to detail with a strong QA and governance mindset
  • Ability to engage with engineers and translate requirements into standards

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to AutoCAD Map 3D / Automated Utility Design (AUD)
  • LISP/VBA scripting or CAD automation experience
  • Knowledge of GIS/CAD integration or spatial systems
  • Experience with document management platforms (e.g. SharePoint, OpenText)
  • Familiarity with asset lifecycle and metadata standards in utilities

Why This Role?

  • Work on high-impact energy and utilities projects
  • Shape foundational CAD standards used across engineering teams
  • Flexible working (remote/hybrid options available)
  • Strong likelihood of contract extension
  • Collaborative, forward-thinking environment leveraging modern geospatial tooling
