About the job HV Authorised Person

We are looking to connect with experienced HV Authorised Persons and electrical team leaders for current and upcoming battery energy storage and power infrastructure opportunities in Dunfermline and across central Scotland.

These positions are likely to suit professionals who are comfortable taking responsibility on site, coordinating electrical works and maintaining safe systems of work within high-voltage environments.

The role

Opportunities may involve leading electrical activities across the construction, commissioning, energisation or operational phases of BESS and wider power projects.

Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Acting as an Authorised Person or Senior Authorised Person for high-voltage electrical systems.
  • Preparing and managing switching schedules, permits, sanctions and safety documentation.
  • Coordinating isolations, earthing and electrical access arrangements.
  • Leading electricians, technicians, contractors and commissioning personnel on site.
  • Ensuring that work is carried out in accordance with electrical safety rules and approved procedures.
  • Supporting the installation, testing and energisation of substations, transformers, switchgear and associated systems.
  • Reviewing RAMS, method statements, switching instructions and technical documentation.
  • Managing interfaces between construction, commissioning, operations and network teams.
  • Investigating faults and supporting the resolution of electrical issues.
  • Monitoring contractor performance, workmanship and compliance.
  • Maintaining accurate site records, inspection documentation and handover information.
  • Promoting a strong safety culture across all electrical activities.

What we are looking for

We would like to hear from candidates with hands-on experience in high-voltage electrical environments.

Relevant backgrounds may include:

  • Battery energy storage.
  • Renewable energy.
  • Substations and grid connections.
  • Power generation.
  • Utilities and electricity networks.
  • Industrial electrical infrastructure.
  • High-voltage maintenance or commissioning.

You are likely to have:

  • Current or previous Authorised Person or Senior Authorised Person experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HV switching and electrical safe systems of work.
  • Experience working with transformers, switchgear, protection systems and substations.
  • The ability to lead teams and coordinate multiple contractors.
  • Confidence managing permits, isolations and site safety documentation.
  • Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • A recognised electrical qualification or apprenticeship.

Additional qualifications or experience may include:

  • 11kV, 33kV or higher-voltage authorisation.
  • BESS construction, commissioning or operations experience.
  • CompEx, IOSH, NEBOSH or site-management qualifications.
  • Testing and inspection qualifications.
  • Protection and control knowledge.
  • Experience working under distribution network or private-network safety rules.
  • First aid or emergency-response training.

Location and travel

Opportunities will be based around Dunfermline, with possible travel to sites across Fife, Edinburgh, the Central Belt and wider Scotland.

The amount of travel, shift work, standby cover and site attendance will vary depending on the employer and project stage.

Candidates based in Dunfermline, Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy, Livingston, Falkirk or surrounding areas may be suitable.
