About the job Data Centre Mechanical Engineer

Keeping a data centre running is not just about power. Cooling, ventilation, water systems and environmental controls are equally critical to uptime.

We are looking to connect with Mechanical Engineers who have experience maintaining, operating or upgrading mission-critical facilities for current and upcoming opportunities in Slough and the wider Thames Valley.

These opportunities may be available with data centre operators, facilities-management providers, engineering contractors and specialist service organisations.

What the work may involve

Depending on the employer and site, responsibilities could include:

  • Operating and maintaining critical mechanical infrastructure.
  • Completing planned preventive and reactive maintenance.
  • Monitoring cooling performance, temperatures, pressures and system alarms.
  • Responding to mechanical faults and site incidents.
  • Diagnosing equipment failures and coordinating repairs.
  • Supporting mechanical isolations and safe systems of work.
  • Managing specialist contractors and maintenance providers.
  • Reviewing service reports, technical documentation and maintenance records.
  • Supporting equipment replacement, plant upgrades and capacity-expansion projects.
  • Assisting with testing, commissioning and handover activities.
  • Contributing to emergency-response and business-continuity procedures.
  • Ensuring work complies with site standards, health and safety requirements and operational procedures.

Systems may include:

  • Chillers and chilled-water systems.
  • Computer room air-conditioning and air-handling units.
  • Cooling towers and dry coolers.
  • Pumps, valves and pressurisation systems.
  • Ventilation and extract systems.
  • Building-management systems.
  • Leak-detection equipment.
