About the job Marketing Assistant

Marketing Assistant

Location: Milpark, Johannesburg (In-Person)

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Employment Type: 6 month Fixed-Term contract, with possibility to go permanent.

Salary: R20,000 per month, with a formal salary review after six months based on demonstrated performance.

Working Hours

Office: Monday to Friday | 10:30–17:00 (On-site)

Evening Collaboration: Monday to Thursday | 20:00–22:30 (Remote)

These evening collaboration sessions are an important part of the role as they overlap with the CEO's working hours. Candidates must be available during these times.

About the Opportunity

You'll work directly with the CEO of a company recognised on the Inc. 5000 list for five consecutive years.

You won't spend years supporting managers several layers removed from decision-making. From your first week, you'll gain practical exposure to marketing, communications, business strategy and AI while working alongside the CEO on real business initiatives.

We're not looking for the person with the longest CV.

We're looking for someone who enjoys figuring things out, learns quickly, takes ownership and produces high-quality work.

If you're the type of person who sees a problem and immediately starts thinking about how to solve it, you'll probably enjoy this role.

Key Responsibilities

Working directly with the CEO, you'll:

  • Create and edit marketing content, presentations and business communications.
  • Research markets, competitors and emerging technologies to support business decisions.
  • Plan and coordinate marketing campaigns and digital content across multiple channels.
  • Prepare executive presentations, reports and supporting material.
  • Use AI tools to improve marketing, automate repetitive work and increase productivity.
  • Coordinate projects, maintain marketing assets and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Provide day-to-day marketing and administrative support to the CEO.

Minimum Requirements

  • Recently completed qualification in Marketing, Communications or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable learning new software independently.
  • Practical confidence using AI tools.
  • Able to commute to Milpark, Johannesburg every day.
  • Available for the required evening collaboration sessions.

Previous work experience isn't required, but evidence of initiative is.

Whether that's building a personal project, freelancing, running a social media page, creating content, using AI to solve a real problem, or teaching yourself a new skill, we'd like to see what you've done beyond the classroom.

What You'll Gain

This role offers significantly more exposure than a traditional graduate marketing position.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work directly with the CEO on real business initiatives.
  • Build practical experience across marketing, communications and business operations.
  • Learn how AI is being used to improve real businesses.
  • Develop commercial thinking and executive-level business exposure.
  • Receive a formal performance and salary review after six months based on your contribution and growth.

What Success Looks Like After Six Months

By the time your six-month review comes around, success will look something like this:

  • You can confidently manage your work with minimal supervision.
  • The CEO trusts you to own projects from start to finish.
  • You've introduced ideas or improvements that make the team more efficient.
  • You're using AI to improve the quality and speed of your work.
  • You're contributing ideas instead of waiting to be told what to do.

Who We're Looking For

This role is for someone who enjoys learning, takes ownership and likes improving the way things are done.

We're interested in people who have demonstrated initiative.

Maybe you've taught yourself a new skill, built something from scratch, used AI to solve a real problem, started a side project or found a better way of doing something.

Those experiences tell us far more than a long list of previous jobs.

Application Requirement

As part of your application, please answer the following question:

Tell us about one thing you've built, taught yourself or figured out completely on your own. What was the challenge, how did you approach it, and what was the outcome?

This question is more important to us than a polished CV.

We're interested in how you think, how you learn, and how you solve problems.
