Job Description – 2nd Level IT Support Specialist
Focus: VS-NfD-Approved VPN Solutions
Role Overview
The 2nd Level IT Support Specialist works in a security-sensitive IT service environment and is responsible for supporting VPN solutions approved up to the classification level VS-NfD.
The role focuses on the independent, telephone-based handling of incidents via remote access, with a primary emphasis on secure VPN hardware components and optional support of related VPN software solutions.
Project / Operational Environment
- Operation and support of security-approved VPN infrastructures for sensitive and regulated customer environments.
- Assignment within a specialized support team responsible for VPN hardware products.
- Integration into a multi-team service organization distributed across several locations within Germany.
- Primary work locations within Germany with limited travel to other sites if required.
- Hybrid working model with approximately 40% remote work.
Key Responsibilities
2nd Level Incident Support
- Independent, telephone-based processing of incoming incidents within the 2nd Level Support framework.
- Troubleshooting and resolution of VPN-related incidents in both customer and internal operational environments.
- Remote diagnostics, fault analysis, and resolution using secure remote maintenance tools.
VPN Operations & Administration
- Operation, administration, and troubleshooting of VPN solutions in compliance with applicable security requirements.
- Primary support of VPN hardware components and optional support of associated VPN software solutions.
- Installation and configuration of VPN systems in accordance with defined security policies and technical standards.
Change, Test & Quality Support
- Support in the planning, evaluation, and implementation of changes to IT services.
- Participation in test and quality assurance activities in the role of tester.
- Validation of system functionality after changes or updates.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
- Creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of technical documentation.
- Contribution to structured knowledge transfer within the support team.
Required Qualifications
Education & Professional Background
- Completed vocational training in an IT-related profession.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in an IT environment.
Professional Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in:
- Service Operations (administration and support of IT and communication services)
- 2nd Level Incident Management
- Operation, administration, or troubleshooting of VPN solutions
- Administration in Windows operating system environments
- Experience working according to ITIL processes (ITIL Foundation knowledge or equivalent).
