About the job Senior Engineer, Production Operations
Role Purpose
To provide technical and operational assurance forsafe, reliable, and optimized production from offshore facilities.
The Onshore Senior Operations Engineer acts as the primary onshore technical interface for offshore production/maintenance team in supporting process/equipment troubleshooting, engineering team interface, asset integrity requirement, drilling & well work and subsurface while ensuring full compliance with company HSSE standards and regulatory requirements.
Role Dimension
Pegaga Offshore Platform (or equivalent gas-condensate facility)
Team Interface: Works closely with offshore OIM, production and maintenance supervisor, onshore maintenance engineer, discipline engineers, integrity engineers, wells and surface
Provides technical recommendations that directly impact production uptime, safety, and compliance
Key Accountabilities
Provide daily technical operations support to offshore production teams, ensuring process stability and compliance with operating envelopes.
Analyze process performance data to identify optimization opportunities and drive efficiency improvements.
Lead troubleshooting of production upsets, process deviations, and equipment failures by coordinating efforts between, maintenance, engineering, asset integrity, wells and subsurface as necessary.
Ensure Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) remain fully functional through coordination with maintenance and integrity teams.
Lead and coordinate operational Root Cause Analysis (RCA)and follow-up of corrective actions.
Review and endorse E-deviation & Management of Change (MOC) proposals for technical soundness and operational safety.
Support continuous improvement of operating procedures, standing instructions, and plant documentation.
Participate actively in HAZOP, HAZID, SIMOPS, and risk reviews.
Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior engineers and offshore operations personnel.
Framework, Boundries & Decision making Authority
Operates within the company's HSSE, Operations, and Integrity Management frameworks.
Makes day-to-day technical decisions relating to process adjustments, troubleshooting, and operational risk mitigation in consultation with Production Team Lead, Sr Operations Manager.
Escalates high-risk or major cost-impacting issues to the Production Team Lead.
Authority extends to providing technical recommendations and operational instructions that maintain facility safety, reliability, and production targets.
Corporate standards guide decisions, as do MPM/PETRONAS regulations and international codes.
Communications & Working Relationships
Internal:
- Production Team Lead, Operations Engineer, Production Planner, Sr Offshore Operations Planner, Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Engineer.
- Offshore OIM, Production Supervisors, CROs, Maintenance Supervisor & Maintenance Technicians
- Engineering Team : Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Integrity Engineers.
- Others: Asset Integrity, Wells, Subsurface, HSSE, Logistics, and Project Teams
External:
- PETRONAS/MPM and other regulatory bodies (for operational and safety compliance)
- Equipment OEMs, service providers, and third-party vendors for troubleshooting and technical support
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Bachelors Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering (or equivalent).
Minimum 15 years of oil & gas experience with at least 5 years in offshore operations or production leadership roles.
Strong technical understanding of gas-condensate process systems (compression, dehydration, stabilization, produced-water treatment).
Proficient in PI Vision for performance monitoring.
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary troubleshooting and RCA exercises.
Excellent analytical, decision-making, and communication skills with demonstrated leadership in operations.
