About the job Sedimentology & Stratigraphy Specialist

Sedimentology & Stratigraphy Specialist

(Third Party Contractor)

Jakarta, Indonesia

Role Purpose:

To advance the characterisation of gas reservoirs, particularly in deep-water depositional systems. The project work will involve examining source-sink relationships, developing sediment provenance models, and characterizing variations in reservoir quality (both primary and diagenetic) to develop predictive models.

Work is to be delivered though a detailed interpretation of core data, well logs, and petrography. It will also include the integration of geochemical, biostratigraphic, geophysical, and other subsurface datasets to develop facies depositional models at both regional and prospect/field scales.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct detailed analysis of sedimentary sequences to interpret depositional environments, sediment provenance, and reservoir characteristics.
  • To integrate core, log, petrographic, biostratigraphic, seismic, and other subsurface data to enhance subsurface models and support exploration efforts.
  • Deliver integrated cross-sections and maps of depositional facies at regional and field/prospect scales, sketches, correlations, technical reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with geologists, petrophysicists, engineers, and geophysicists to develop and implement strategies for resource discovery and extraction.
  • Suggest optimization of laboratory studies to ensure the collection of suitable data for further evaluation, such as static and dynamic modeling, field development studies, and other related research. Review reports from contractors.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing within the team and have the willingness to coach colleagues in the application of clastic sedimentology and stratigraphic principles.
  • To comply with all Indonesia and Company HSSE Policy, Standards, and Procedures.

Qualifications include but are not limited to the following:

  • Minimum of a Masters degree in Earth Science (Geology, Clastic Sedimentology, Petroleum Geology).
  • Minimum 15 years of working experience in clastic reservoir geology, stratigraphy, and reservoir characterisation.
  • A 'hands-on' specialist is required, emphasizing soft skills such as strong interpersonal abilities for collaboration and the capability to clearly communicate complex models in oral, written and visual formats.
  • Experience in deep-water clastic reservoir sedimentology and stratigraphy, and a strong understanding of biostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy, and tectonostratigraphy.
  • The ability to work across different scales (basin-reservoir) utilizing a play-based exploration approach.
  • Experience in defining and modeling reservoir quality, including porosity and permeability, is essential. Both primary controls and secondary factors, such as diagenesis, are expected to be evaluated with the aim of developing predictive models.
  • Capable in planning and executing relevant laboratory analysis in collaboration with the subsurface project team.
  • Fluent communication in English (written and spoken).
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
