Role Purpose:
The Head of Drilling provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for all drilling and well construction activities across the organization. This role ensures that all drilling programs are safely executed, cost‑efficient, and aligned with Mubadala Energy standards (OMS, DWES) as well as SKK Migas regulations.
The position is accountable for well design assurance, operational readiness, contractor performance, cost governance, HSSE excellence, and capability development within the drilling team. The role leads the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of drilling operations to meet project objectives safely, reliably, and within budget.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Lead the development, approval, and execution of drilling strategies, well concepts, and well delivery frameworks to achieve project objectives.
- Ensure drilling and completion programs are planned and executed in compliance with OMS/DWES standards, SKK Migas requirements, and approved operational plans.
- Oversee well engineering assurance processes, including DWOP, HAZOP, readiness reviews, and risk management activities prior to execution.
- Deliver wells safely, within approved AFE budgets, optimized schedules, and targeted Non-Productive Time (NPT) performance.
- Provide leadership during critical well events, operational upsets, unplanned situations, and technical risk management activities.
- Drive a strong HSSE culture across drilling teams and contractors, ensuring safe execution of offshore drilling operations and effective SIMOPS management.
- Lead the development and execution of drilling contracting strategies, procurement activities, and long-lead item (LLI) planning in accordance with SKK Migas procurement requirements.
- Review and approve well cost estimates, AFEs, daily cost tracking, Management of Change (MoC) processes, and contractor performance evaluations.
- Lead workforce planning, competency development, succession planning, and compliance with well control certification and technical competency requirements.
- Provide governance, performance reporting, and stakeholder engagement with Regional and Corporate leadership, Country Management, SKK Migas, JV partners, and other key stakeholders while ensuring compliance with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications include but are not limited to the following:
Education:
- Master's degree in engineering or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum 15+ years in E&P drilling operations.
- At least 10 years in leadership roles.
- Strong experience in offshore operations (SE Asia preferred).
- Demonstrated delivery of complex multi-well drilling campaign.
Skills:
- Knowledge
- Deepwater and shallow-water drilling operations.
- Well engineering design, completion, testing.
- International and Indonesian regulatory framework.
- Drilling technology, well integrity, SIMOPS.
