Role Purpose:

Support technical safety engineering activities for the South Andaman Deepwater (Tangkulo) Development Project to ensure compliance with regulatory, industry, and company safety standards across FPSO, SURF/SPS, GEP, and Condensate Onshore Plant facilities. The role focuses on supporting the development and implementation of risk management and loss prevention strategies to protect personnel, assets, and the environment, under the direction of the Lead Process Safety Engineer.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following

  • Provide technical safety engineering support related to process safety, loss prevention, and risk management for offshore and onshore facilities including FPSO, SURF/SPS, GEP, and Condensate Onshore Plant.
  • Actively participate in technical safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, SIL, and other risk assessments to identify and mitigate Major Accident Hazards (MAHs) throughout project phases.
  • Support the development, review, and implementation of safety engineering deliverables including Fire & Explosion Analysis, Escape & Evacuation Studies, Fire Protection Philosophy, and related safety documents.
  • Ensure appropriate design and adequacy of safety systems including fire protection, gas detection, blast protection, and emergency response systems.
  • Ensure all safety engineering activities comply with applicable international regulations, industry standards (API, ISO, NFPA, IEC, IMO), and company standards.
  • Support ALARP demonstrations, identification of Safety Critical Elements (SCEs), and development of performance standards.
  • Assist in implementing Safety Management Systems (SMS) and facilitating technical safety audits and reviews.
  • Provide technical safety input during design reviews, constructability reviews, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, HSSE, and project teams to ensure integrated and consistent safety strategies.
  • Engage with contractors, certification bodies, and regulatory authorities to support safety case development and regulatory approvals.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in line with company HSE policies, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Immediately report any unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, dangerous occurrences, or incidents in the workplace.

Qualifications include but are not limited to the following:

Education:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, Process Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Masters degree is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in technical/process safety within the upstream oil & gas industry.
  • Significant exposure to deepwater projects, FPSO, SURF/SPS, GEP, and onshore processing facilities.
  • Proven experience participating in HAZID, HAZOP, QRA, LOPA, SIL studies, and Safety Case development.
  • Experience across FEED, detailed engineering, commissioning, and operational support phases.
  • Strong understanding of process safety management (PSM), loss prevention, and major accident hazard control.
  • Experience working under the supervision of a Lead Process Safety Engineer within large-scale development projects.

Technical & Management Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of international safety standards and codes including API RP 14C, IEC 61511, ISO 13702, NFPA, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficient in safety risk assessment tools, methodologies, and technical safety studies.
  • Ability to support development of safety philosophies, fire protection strategies, and emergency response concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk-based decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and technical writing skills for preparation of safety reports and engineering studies.
  • Good stakeholder engagement skills with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural project teams.
  • High commitment to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards in offshore and onshore projects.
