Role Purpose:

The Subject Matter Expert, Lifting holds discipline Technical Authority for all lifting, crane and mechanical handling matters across the Tangkulo asset — FPSO topsides and marine, subsea/SPS and the gas export pipeline scopes. Working within the Central Engineering Team and the MESA TA framework, the role provides independent technical assurance over contractor lifting and mechanical handling designs throughout FEED, EPC and into operational readiness, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, fit for a 20-year life and aligned to the Project Integrated Basis of Design (IBOD, ID-TKL-ENG-165-BOD-0005 Rev R1) and the FPSO Basis of Design (ID-TKL-ENG-165-BOD-0002).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Act as the Technical Authority for Lifting & Mechanical Handling within the three-lines-of-assurance model
  • Provide independent assurance on contractor lifting and mechanical handling designs across FPSO, GEP, and SPS scopes
  • Define and maintain the Lifting & Mechanical Handling Philosophy and design basis, ensuring alignment with IBOD, FPSO BOD, and contractor deliverables
  • Serve as the approving authority for lifting appliances, lifting plans, and procedures, including presence during major lifting activities
  • Review and assure crane selection, specification, and mechanical handling systems to meet operational and maintenance requirements
  • Validate lifting points, rigging designs, and installation interfaces, including coordination with Marine Warranty Surveyor
  • Define long-lead lifting equipment requirements and provide input to procurement and material handling philosophy
  • Lead DROPS studies and lifting risk assessments, ensuring coverage of SIMOPS and Major Accident Hazards
  • Interface with Marine, Subsea/SPS, and GEP stakeholders to ensure alignment on lifting operations and requirements
  • Ensure compliance with Indonesian regulations, classification standards, and international codes, including support for technical reviews and documentation processes
    

Qualifications include but are not limited to the following:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering, or equivalent
  • Chartered/Professional Engineer status preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years' offshore oil & gas experience, with a recognised specialism in lifting, cranes and mechanical handling on floating production facilities (FPSO/FLNG) and subsea systems
  • Demonstrable experience of offshore cranes, lifting appliances, rigging, heavy lift and transport & installation engineering
  • Prior experience in an Operator/Technical Assurance role, ideally under a Lease & Operate or equivalent model where the operator assures rather than executes design
  • Recognised lifting competency credentials are advantageous (e.g. LEEA membership, Lifting Equipment Engineer, Appointed Person)

Skills:

  1. Knowledge
  • Familiarity with deepwater developments, turret or spread-moored floaters, and subsea tie-back architecture

2. Soft & Hard Skills

  • Independent technical judgement and the authority to hold the discipline line against schedule and commercial pressure
  • Strong assurance mindset—able to challenge contractor designs constructively and evidence acceptance against codes and the project basis of design
  • Effective across multiple contractors and disciplines, with clear, precise and well-referenced technical documentation
  • Risk-based decision-making; able to take and justify conservative positions on critical items and manage residual risk through contingency
  • Collaborative, with the maturity to operate within a lean operator team and externalize execution appropriately
