About The Role:

We are seeking a Junior BI Engineer to maintain and enhance our data pipelines, ensuring seamless integration and high-quality reporting that drives business decisions for both internal teams and clients. This role is ideal for someone passionate about data infrastructure, automation, and analytics, with a strong foundation in SQL and cloud-based data environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and optimize ETL/ELT processes, transforming raw JSON data into structured, analytics-ready tables in BigQuery.
  • Develop and maintain automated exception reporting using Great Expectations, proactively identifying and surfacing data anomalies.
  • Automate and scale the onboarding of new brands into the data pipeline, ensuring seamless integration with existing reporting structures.
  • Standardize and scale transformations using CTEs and dynamic queries, applying reusable logic across multiple brands.
  • Develop new tables, views, attributes, and metrics in collaboration with the Analytics Team, ensuring accurate and efficient reporting.
  • Productionalize advanced analytics models, integrating them into BI platforms for actionable insights.
  • Manage code versioning and track updates across SQL and ETL pipelines.
  • Optimize data flows, maintaining clear documentation of dependencies, transformations, and change management processes.
  • Occasionally set up, configure, and troubleshoot API data feeds, integrating new sources or adjusting to schema changes.

Requirements:

  • Strong SQL expertise (must-have); knowledge of Python is a plus.
  • Experience working with BigQuery and cloud-based data environments.
  • Understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data pipeline management.
  • Familiarity with Terraform (or similar Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools).
  • Experience with Great Expectations (or other data quality frameworks).
  • Knowledge of JSON and API data handling is a plus.
  • Interest in BI tools like Tableau or Looker Studio (bonus if you have hands-on experience).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate with the Analytics Team.

Additional Information:

  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9AM-5PM PST (flexible)
  • Full-Time: 40 hours per week
  • Type of Contract: Independent contractor
