About the Company

Our client is an early-stage company sitting on an audience of roughly 100,000 contacts that hasn't yet been turned into a structured growth engine yet. This is a rewarming challenge: the strategist coming in will need to rebuild trust and deliverability, and design the systems that turn a dormant list back into an active growth engine.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Growth & Email Marketing Strategist who will build and own our email-driven growth strategy from the ground up. This is an early-stage opportunity where very little has been established yet, you'll take an existing audience and build the strategy, systems, segmentation, messaging, and campaigns needed to turn that audience into engaged users and, ultimately, customers.

This role is for someone with a startup mentality, someone who will do whatever it takes to exceed the roadmap, not just meet it. It's a high pace, high ownership environment. The right person doesn't just contribute to the mission, they become part of it, treating the company's goals as their own and pushing well past what's asked. You'll need to be as comfortable proposing the strategy as executing it, since the playbook doesn't exist yet.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy for turning our existing email audience into engaged users and customers
  • Assess the current state of our email database and develop a plan for cleaning, organizing, tagging, and segmenting it
  • Develop audience segmentation strategies based on audience type, interests, behavior, and engagement
  • Create differentiated communication strategies for distinct cohorts (investors, brands, retailers, media, and other relevant audiences)
  • Build the email marketing infrastructure, processes, and tool stack needed to support scalable growth
  • Think strategically about deliverability, list health, data tagging, segmentation, automation, and campaign performance
  • Develop nurture campaigns and conversion journeys that move contacts from the newsletter/list into conversations and platform adoption
  • Help determine the right timing and sequencing of marketing activity while the product is still in pilot
  • Establish measurable milestones and trigger points for moving between phases of the growth strategy
  • Develop and test different messaging, offers, and conversion paths
  • Launch and manage a newsletter strategy while the platform is being developed or tested
  • Analyze performance and use data to continuously refine the growth strategy
  • Partner directly with the founder to brainstorm ideas, evaluate opportunities, and make strategic decisions
  • Help identify opportunities to expand into additional growth channels over time

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in growth marketing, email marketing, lifecycle marketing, CRM, or a closely related discipline
  • Strong strategic experience developing email and lifecycle marketing programs, ideally from an early or relatively undeveloped stage
  • Demonstrated ability to think beyond campaign execution and develop a broader growth strategy
  • Strong understanding of email marketing fundamentals: deliverability, list management, segmentation, data tagging, audience targeting, nurture campaigns, conversion optimization, and marketing automation
  • Experience working with large databases or audiences
  • Strong analytical mindset and ability to use data to inform marketing decisions
  • Excellent copywriting and messaging skills, comfortable developing or substantially shaping copy rather than relying entirely on external copywriters
  • Comfortable operating in an ambiguous, early-stage environment where the strategy is still being figured out
  • Highly entrepreneurial and self-directed, comfortable saying "here's what I think we should do" rather than waiting for a detailed playbook
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work directly with a founder and influence strategic decisions
  • Experience building or leveraging AI workflows for production coordination and appointment/scheduling automation

Nice to Have

  • Experience in the DTC ecosystem or strong familiarity with DTC brands, their challenges, and their audiences. Direct DTC operating experience is not required.
  • Experience working with conferences, media, communities, events, or audience-driven businesses.
  • Experience with platforms or products involving conversational AI, networking, communities, or digital engagement.
  • Experience with WhatsApp or other conversational/customer engagement channels.
  • Experience with additional growth channels such as social media or community platforms.
  • Experience launching or growing a newsletter or paid newsletter.
  • Experience working with early-stage startups or launching marketing functions from scratch.

Additional Information:

  • Work Hours: Remote, flexible to start
  • Contract Type: Part-time, with potential to evolve into full-time
