Job Summary:
The Ergonomic Specialist will ensure internal procedures regarding employee absences, including wage continuation and tracking of time off, comply with federal/state laws, mandates, and company standards. This role will provide guidance to managers, safety representatives, and employees on ergonomic safety, workers' compensation, and return-to-work initiatives aimed at maximizing productivity and reducing injury-related absences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ergonomic Assessments: Conduct on-site and telephonic assessments of employee workstations to address discomfort and reduce the risk of injury.
- Ergonomic Program Coordination: Coordinate a companywide network of safety representatives, including recruitment, recognition, and the creation and implementation of a robust communications strategy.
- Data Management & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of ergonomic discomfort and workplace injuries, ensuring safety/ergonomics issues are addressed. Provide data for continuous safety program improvements.
- Absence Management: Enter and maintain accurate data in the appropriate databases to ensure compliance with absence management laws. Coordinate with internal IT to restore access for employees returning from leave.
- Return to Work Support: Assist in the return-to-work placement process by supporting stay-at-work/return-to-work initiatives and developing ergonomic accommodations.
- Communication & Guidance: Respond to team emails, calls, and faxes with first-call resolution. Maintain a copy of all communications in employee files and send surveys to managers regarding employees returning to work.
- Collaboration: Provide procedural guidance and support to internal and external partners, including collaborating with Benefits and HR teams to make decisions about employment status and program enhancements.
- Oracle HRIS Management: Assist in test planning and updates for the Oracle HRIS system and use Business Objects reports to manage and coordinate reporting changes.
- Legislative Awareness: Keep current on changes in legislation and industry trends in disability and leave management.
- Safety Program Oversight: Oversee health and safety initiatives such as the Driver Safety Program and collaborate cross-functionally with wellness and safety teams.
- Program Development: Assist in the development of reports and tools to partner with Benefits and HR partners, and implement wellness and safety programs and events.
Qualifications:

Experience:
- Preferred: 2+ years of experience in welfare benefits or general HR, with experience in leave of absence management and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and family leave provisions.
- Preferred: 1 year of experience in safety and ergonomics.

Skills & Abilities:
- Strong verbal communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Project management experience.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Oracle.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple teams and departments to implement solutions.

Certifications:
- Certified Office Ergonomics Evaluator (1-year experience preferred).
