About This Role
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer with 8+ years of experience to serve as a key senior individual contributor at a mission-driven, AI-native EdTech startup.
You'll work directly with the CTO to take ownership of substantial parts of the codebase, independently identifying what needs doing and carrying projects from idea to production.
The company has grown to hundreds of thousands of users and more than 1,000 school and district customers, and your code will ship to production in hours, not weeks.
This is a high-agency role for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, lean environment where your work directly impacts literacy outcomes for students.
What Will You Be Doing?
Building and iterating on the core product suite — prototyping, refining, and rapidly shipping new AI-powered literacy tools
Taking complex, cross-cutting features from prototype to production with thoughtful architecture and security decisions
Improving engineering systems and practices while maintaining a high-quality, easy-to-reason-about codebase at scale
Communicating proactively with the small remote team to ensure alignment and coherence as you ship features end-to-end
What We're Looking For
8+ years of software engineering experience
Senior-level software engineering experience with strong full-stack capabilities
0-to-1 building experience, including shipping end-to-end features and carrying projects from idea to production
Experience owning substantial parts of a codebase and handling large-scale projects without a detailed roadmap
Strong experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, and PostgreSQL
High agency and the ability to make meaningful progress with minimal oversight
Strong attention to detail
A hands-on engineering mindset and interest in remaining an individual contributor
Genuine interest in mission-driven work and improving literacy outcomes
Nice to Have
EdTech experience, either professional or academic
Familiarity with Vercel deployment and serverless architecture
Familiarity with modern web frameworks
Experience with AI/ML products or tooling
Tech Stack
TypeScript, React, Next.js, PostgreSQL, Vercel, Zod, Sanity, AI/ML
