Salary: $135,000-$185,000 base + bonus (commensurate with experience)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Premises Liability Associate with 5+ years of civil litigation defense experience to join a growing defense practice handling a diverse caseload ranging from big-box retail slip-and-fall matters to complex corporate premises liability claims.

This role offers meaningful litigation experience from day one, including depositions, court appearances, direct client interaction, and a clear path toward trial work. You'll collaborate closely with experienced litigators while managing cases throughout every stage of the litigation process.

Responsibilities

• Take and defend depositions

• Attend court hearings and participate in site inspections

• Draft and respond to written discovery, including:

  • Interrogatories

  • Requests for Production of Documents

  • Requests for Admissions

• Manage matters from initial case evaluation through resolution

• Prepare pleadings, including answers and demurrers

• Conduct plaintiff depositions

• Prepare reports and case evaluations for insurance carriers and clients

• Develop and execute litigation strategies designed to achieve client objectives

• Maintain proactive communication with clients throughout litigation

• Prepare status reports and case assessments

• Independently manage an active litigation caseload while meeting billable requirements

Qualifications

• 5+ years of civil litigation defense experience

• Demonstrated experience handling premises liability matters

• Significant deposition experience (ideally 20+ depositions taken and defended)

• Experience with:

  • Written discovery

  • Law and motion practice

  • Case evaluation

  • Litigation strategy

• Ability to independently manage cases from complaint through resolution

• Active California State Bar membership in good standing

• Comfortable meeting approximately 1,920 annual billable hours
