Outside Sales Representative Building Materials

 Job Description:

OUTSIDE SALES REPRESENTATIVE FOR BUILDING MATERIALS

Develops and expands customers to increase company sales and profit.

EXPERIENCE: Three to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMPENSATION:

  • 35,000/Annually plus commission

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop; new customer accounts through cold calls, working potential customer lists, contacting subcontractors in the area, contacting companies who previously rejected proposals, etc.
  • Negotiates pricing levels to encourage business.
  • Maintains positive relations and increases business with current customers. Obtains and records current information on customers.
  • Collects past due accounts payable up to 60 days out.
  • Accurately estimates materials needed and add-on merchandise.
  • Recommends adjustments to current product line and pricing to remain competitive. 
  • Attends and participates in all company-sponsored training programs as required.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as; discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in a written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, sales and customer service.
  • Knowledge of building materials products (especially commodities) and lumber. 
  • Computer skills.
