JOB TITLE: Director, Human Resources - Assort Japan

Primary Responsibilities

  1. To be responsible for the management of human resource activities for the properties and the cluster functions, encompassing recruitment, talent management, compensation & benefits, learning & development, performance review, and general affairs.

Job Function

  1. Manage and lead the HR team as department head. Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with business objectives. Provide support to team and property/cluster leaders.
  2. Lead the recruiting team to support recruitment for properties and cluster departments. Oversee planning, advertising, screening, interviewing, reference checks, and employment offers.
  3. Maintain and update a register of all position descriptions in the cluster in prescribed formats to ensure relevance and accuracy.
  4. Assist the talent development manager in annual training program planning. Roll out training plans and act as a trainer if required.
  5. Drive talent management initiatives for property and cluster staff. Provide feedback to management on high-potential employees, training needs, and promotion prospects.
  6. Monitor employee training compliance (e.g., orientation, SOPs) with the training & development team.
  7. Prepare the clusters annual manpower budget in consultation with property/department leaders. Focus on cost, productivity, and manpower optimization.
  8. Track industry compensation and benefit practices. Analyze surveys and recommend improvements to maintain competitiveness.
  9. Ensure robust performance review processes. Guide leaders on addressing performance shortfalls and reinforcing competencies.
  10. Manage day-to-day employee relations, promote company culture, and coordinate welfare/team-building activities. Serve on relevant committees.
  11. Collaborate with marketing and sustainability teams to enhance employer branding.
  12. Develop HR systems and procedures. Streamline Ascott and Oakwood operations for efficiency.
  13. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Country General Manager and HQ HR.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum 10 years of HR experience (including 5+ years in managerial roles), covering recruitment, compensation & benefits, talent management, and employee relations.
  2. In-depth knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations.
  3. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  4. Hospitality sector experience and project management skills preferred.
  5. Ability to build relationships with internal teams, vendors, consultants, and professional networks.
  6. Proactive in innovation, change management, and service initiatives.
  7. Detail-oriented with strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  8. Highly organized with exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  9. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, CAD, Photoshop, or similar software.
  10. Willingness to travel within Japan and regionally as needed.
  11. Fluency in English and Japanese.
