Role Summary

The Senior Engineer Data Center Administrator is responsible for the administration, management, and optimization of all data center infrastructure, ensuring that servers, storage, network equipment, and power/cooling systems operate efficiently and reliably. This role requires a deep technical expertise in data center technologies, infrastructure management, and troubleshooting complex issues. The Senior Engineer will be involved in the design, implementation, and support of scalable, highly available, and secure data center environment, working closely with various teams to ensure high uptime and performance.

Job Description

  • Administer and support the end-to-end infrastructure of the data center, including servers, storage, networking, and associated components
  • Monitor and manage the performance, health, and capacity of the data center infrastructure
  • Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers, storage devices, network switches, and other hardware
  • Perform ongoing capacity planning for data center resources, including compute, storage, and network resources
  • Manage data center power and cooling efficiency, ensuring optimal energy usage and compliance with sustainability practices
  • Design, implement, and maintain disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) plans for data center systems
  • Perform regular disaster recovery drills to ensure readiness for data center failures and manage failover and recovery processes
  • Ensure that the data center meets recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO) as specified by business requirements
  • Provide L3 support for data center-related incidents, including hardware failures, network issues, and storage problems
  • Maintain a detailed record of all incidents, resolutions, and service improvement actions
  • Ensure data center infrastructure is secure, with appropriate access controls, monitoring, and incident response protocols
  • Implement and maintain security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and data encryption for data at rest and in transit
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, including hardware and software suppliers, ensuring the timely delivery of equipment and services
  • Negotiate service level agreements (SLAs) and manage contracts for outsourced services (e.g., colocation, managed services)
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of data center configurations, network diagrams, policies, procedures, and service-level agreements
  • Ensure that all configurations, maintenance tasks, and incident resolutions are documented and accessible for future reference
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., networking, storage, security, applications) to design, deploy, and support data center infrastructure
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers and administrators, sharing knowledge and providing training on best practices for data center management

Person Specification

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with data center technologies, including physical server hardware, storage systems, network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls), and virtualization platforms
  • Strong knowledge of power and cooling systems, including UPS systems, generators, and environmental monitoring
  • Familiarity with data center management frameworks such as ITIL and best practices for change, incident, and problem management
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to address complex infrastructure issues under pressure
  • Ability to work under tight schedules
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • 7 Years of experience in DC Administration
