Senior Software Engineer

Job Description

• Participate in development ceremonies and agile activities throughout the software development lifecycle
• Implement reliable, high-performance solutions while maintaining quality through adherence to MIT ESP coding standards and best practices
• Develop and execute unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests to ensure application reliability and performance
• Continuously learn and apply new technologies to support development activities
• Deliver assigned tasks within project timelines both independently and as part of a team
• Develop and deploy cloud native applications, and integrate solutions with e-commerce and enterprise software platforms
• Adhere to technical guidance and directives provided by technical leadership
• Contribute to technical estimations to support project planning and delivery
• Prepare and maintain design and functional documentation, including technical proposals where required
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues within applications and supporting infrastructure
• Develop and maintain components and frameworks across the software development lifecycle
• Contribute to research and development initiatives to support innovation, technology improvements, and enhanced development practices
• Collaborate effectively with team members, peer teams, and clients to support successful project delivery
• Ability manage a small team
• Prepare and maintain design and functional documentation, including technical proposals

Person Specification

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
• Minimum of 2 years of industry experience as a Software Engineer
• Strong understanding and practical experience in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and design principles
• Proficiency in Java and the Spring Boot framework, with experience developing enterprise applications
• Expertise in JavaScript/ TypeScript and CSS
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, MongoDB, and MySQL
• Strong expertise in database design and implementation
• Familiarity with JavaScript frontend frameworks such as ReactJS, Angular, and Next.js
• Knowledge of messaging services and tools, including Kafka and RabbitMQ
• Experience working with cloud-native solutions and technologies
• Experience with containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes
• Proficiency in Git for version control
• Experience with web services technologies, including REST and SOAP
• Experience using project management and collaboration tools, such as JIRA and Azure Boards
• Proven experience developing and deploying applications in Windows and Linux environments
• Experience with system design and architecture
• Experience with microservices architecture and microservice deployments using Docker and Kubernetes
• Exposure to cloud technologies and cloud-based platforms
