Our client is looking to hire a Packaging Design Specialist in Guangzhou, the ideal candidate will take ownership of packaging development from concept through to production, working closely with suppliers, internal teams, and oversea-based stakeholders to ensure premium packaging quality and brand consistency.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and communicate packaging requirements and specifications to suppliers; oversee execution and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Design packaging structures, dielines from scratch, aligned to product needs, protection, branding, and customer experience.
  • Troubleshoot packaging issues throughout development and production, identifying cost-effective and innovative solutions.
  • Standardize packaging materials, sizes, structures, and processes, and create detailed SOPs to support consistency and scalability.
  • Review, test, and approve packaging samples to ensure functionality, durability, and compliance with internal and international standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (design, product, logistics) to ensure packaging supports overall product development goals and supply chain efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed packaging specifications, drawings, and documentation for internal use and supplier reference.
  • Stay current on sustainable packaging practices and recommend eco-friendly materials and methods where feasible.
  • Ensure packaging meets international compliance, retail, and transit requirements (e.g. drop tests, compression, vibration testing).
  • Balance creativity with cost and operational efficiency, working within project budgets and timelines.
  • Support the visual and tactile unboxing experience to reflect the premium positioning of the brand

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience in packaging design and engineering, with a strong portfolio of commercial packaging work.
  • Solid knowledge of packaging materials (paper, board, foam, etc.), printing methods (offset, flexo), and finishing techniques (foiling, embossing, lamination).
  • Experience designing packaging for hardgoods, kitchenware, or homeware is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in developing packaging specifications, including structural drawings and BOMs.
  • Familiarity with international packaging compliance and standards, particularly for export to the EU, UK, and USA.
  • Experience with packaging testing procedures, including drop and transport tests.
  • Understanding of sustainability in packaging, including recyclable materials and eco-friendly design strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to work across international teams and suppliers.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign is advantageous.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple timelines and stakeholders.
