Our client, Sri Lankas first carbon-neutral last-mile delivery service, is dedicated to providing eco-friendly, reliable, and efficient logistics solutions. They offer a full range of services, including 24-hour delivery, cash on delivery (COD), financial reporting, carbon reporting, and digital payment systems integrated within their platforms. As they continue to grow, they are seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager to drive expansion and foster partnerships that align with their sustainable mission.

Role Overview
The Business Development Manager will play a key role in driving our clients market growth and revenue by focusing on geographic expansion, merchant development, supply chain optimization, and agent acquisition. This role will involve developing and executing strategies to expand their footprint, strengthen partnerships with merchants, build supply networks, and cultivate a robust network of delivery agents. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business development, deep knowledge of logistics, and a passion for sustainable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, preferably within
    logistics, transportation, or e-commerce. Experience in sustainable business models is a plus.
  • Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across functions and with diverse stakeholders.
  • In-depth understanding of the logistics and last-mile delivery sector, with familiarity in geo expansion, merchant partnerships, and supply chain dynamics.
  • Proficient in CRM software and business analytics tools;
  • experience with logistics management platforms is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with proficiency in local languages preferred.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Development and Market Growth

  • Develop and implement business development strategies to drive revenue growth and expand market share in alignment with the company's mission.
  • Conduct market research to identify new business opportunities, customer needs, and competitive landscape, presenting actionable insights to the leadership team.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, proposals, and contracts to potential partners, aligning with the company's sustainable logistics goals.

2. Geographic Expansion

  • Identify and evaluate potential markets for geographic expansion, including urban and regional areas.
  • Establish and execute expansion plans, coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure operational readiness and alignment with the company's service standards.
  • Manage relationships with local authorities and partners to facilitate smooth entry into new markets.

3. Merchant Development

  • Build and nurture relationships with merchants, identifying ways to integrate the company's services into their logistics and delivery operations.
  • Collaborate with merchant partners to identify and fulfill their delivery needs, enhancing customer satisfaction and ensuring sustainable service delivery.
  • Drive the adoption of the company's digital payment solutions and promote environmental accountability through carbon reporting.

4. Supply Development

  • Develop partnerships with suppliers and vendors that align with the company's sustainability standards and operational requirements.
  • Optimize supply chains for operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability, ensuring timely and reliable access to resources.
  • Negotiate agreements with suppliers, managing contracts, and performance metrics to meet operational demands.

5. Agent Development

  • Build a network of delivery agents, including recruiting, training, and onboarding new agents in alignment with the company's service standards.
  • Create programs to incentivize agent performance, promote agent retention, and improve service quality across delivery channels.
  • Develop agent engagement initiatives to ensure a motivated, well-equipped delivery network.

6. Strategic Partnerships and Alliances

  • Identify and establish strategic partnerships that align with the company's growth objectives, including alliances with logistics firms, technology providers, and green energy suppliers.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders to support business growth and expand the company's industry footprint.

7. Performance Tracking and Reporting

  • Track and report on KPIs, including market growth, merchant acquisition, agent performance, and service quality metrics.
  • Provide regular updates and performance insights to the senior management team, recommending adjustments to strategies as needed.
