Company Overview:
A global engineering and manufacturing solutions provider specializing in advanced automation for highly regulated industries. The company is seeking an Automation Technician to ensure power flows safely from the main electrical enclosures to every
sensor, motor, and controller on the machine.
Key Responsibilities:
Schematic Interpretation & Layout
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts (Generated in AutoCAD Electrical).
- Verify electrical inventory against engineering bills of materials (BOM), ensuring correct PLCs, relays, drives, and cables are staged.
Control Panel & Enclosure Assembly
- Mount electrical hardware including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), power supplies, and circuit breakers onto sub-panels.
- Layout and install wire ducting and DIN rails inside the main control enclosures.
- Wire control panels cleanly, ensuring all points are properly crimped, terminated, and clearly labeled with wire markers matching the schematic.
Field Wiring & System Integration
- Route cables across machine frames, utilizing cable tracks, conduits, and cable trays to protect wires from moving parts.
- Terminate field devices such as proximity sensors, limit switches, safety light curtains, and servo motors.
- Solder and assemble custom cables or industrial connectors (e.g., M12, RJ45, heavy-duty multipin connectors) as required by design specifications.
Power-Up, Testing & Debugging
- Perform point-to-point continuity checks using digital multimeters before power-up to ensure zero short circuits or wiring errors.
- Assist controls engineers during initial power-on and software loading, verifying correct motor rotation and sensor feedback.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults, such as ground faults, voltage drops, or communication errors in industrial networks (EtherCAT, Profinet, EtherNet/IP).
Safety, Standards & Deployment
- Adhere to electrical safety codes and standards.
- Support field deployment by traveling to customer sites to reconnect shipped machine sections, verify field wiring, and assist with final commissioning.
Requirements:
- Technical Diploma or ITE certification in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Electronics.
- 2+ years of experience in industrial electrical wiring, control panel assembly, or automation equipment integration.
- Proficient in spoken/ read and written in English
- Proficiency with wire strippers, crimping tools, ferrule presses, multimeters, and soldering irons.
- Expert ability to read industrial electrical schematics; basic understanding of PLC I/O configurations.
- Willingness to travel to customer facilities for machine installation, wiring reassembly, and site testing.
