Job Summary

Position Overview

The Senior General Ledger Accountant manages core accounting operations, leads month-end closes, ensures compliance with IFRS accounting standards and performs complex balance sheet reconciliations.

Essential Job Functions and Duties

Month-End and Year-End Close: Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure strict deadlines are met. Prepare, review, and post complex journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications in compliance with IFRS. Performs comprehensive balance sheet and income statement fluctuations (flux) analyses. Investigates and resolves anomalies and discrepancies with actionable explanations.

Reconciliations and General Ledger Integrity: Execute complex monthly balance sheet reconciliations with thorough supporting documentation. Maintain, balance, and own assigned areas of the general ledger. Reconcile intercompany transactions, allocations, and reconcile subsystem data transfers. Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations prepared by other accountants.

Compliance, Audits, and Controls: Execute and maintain internal controls, ensuring alignment with business and corporate policies and accounting/financial reporting standards. Prepare robust working papers, audit schedules, and supporting documentation for internal stakeholders and external auditors. Assist in researching technical accounting guidance and implementing new regulatory standards.

Process Improvement and Cross-Functional Support: Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Tax and Operations to clarify financial results. Drive accounting automation initiatives and process improvements to reduce manual close efforts. Provide subject matter expertise and guidance on general ledger inquiries across the departments. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service quality, consistency, and scalability within the Shared Services organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent credential preferred.

  • Four to seven years of experience in a general accounting role, preferably in a multi-regional and multi-currency organization.

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS or GAAP as it relates to general ledger accounting and financial reporting.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both written and verbally, and to work with others across the organization to accomplish the objectives of the role and team.

  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring controls are operating effectively, and all accounts are reconciled on time each month.

  • Experience working under a monthly accounting close timetable and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Self-directed professional who takes ownership, demonstrates accountability, and actively pursues continuous learning.

  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on increasing process efficiency, strengthening controls, and enhancing service delivery.

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite, including use of pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and some advanced functions where necessary.

  • Experience working in a large ERP environment (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).

  • Fluency with the Spanish language a plus but not required.
