Your Role:

As an Electrical Estimator, you will:

  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and tender documents to develop a complete understanding of project scope.
  • Prepare accurate material quantity takeoffs for industrial and municipal electrical projects, including conduit, cable, wiring, fixtures, switchboards, transformers, MCCs, grounding systems, cable trays, and related electrical components.
  • Develop preliminary labour-hour estimates for electrical installation activities such as conduit installation, cable pulling, equipment installation, underground works, testing, and commissioning using established productivity standards.
  • Identify drawing inconsistencies, specification conflicts, and missing information, and prepare clarification notes or Requests for Information (RFIs) for review.
  • Compile organized estimating packages, ensuring all takeoffs and supporting documentation are complete and ready for Senior Estimator review.
  • Maintain estimating databases, material libraries, historical cost information, and project documentation to support future bid preparation.
  • Assist with bid revisions, addenda reviews, and scope updates throughout the tender process.
  • Utilize estimating software and Microsoft Excel to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and support continuous process improvements within the estimating function.

What You Need:

Non-negotiables

  • At least 3 years of experience in electrical estimating, quantity surveying, electrical design, industrial/commercial electrical construction, or a related field.
  • Strong ability to interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, control schematics, panel schedules, site plans, and construction specifications.
  • Hands-on experience performing electrical material quantity takeoffs and preliminary labour estimates for construction projects.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift (or equivalent PDF takeoff software), and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of industrial and commercial electrical systems, wiring methods, raceways, electrical materials, and standard installation practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Preferred skills/expertise

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Journeyman Electrician certification, Industrial Electrician experience, or Electrical Design/CAD background.
  • Experience with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), or familiarity with NEC, IEC, or other international electrical standards.
  • Experience estimating municipal, water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, industrial process facilities, or heavy commercial projects.
  • Knowledge of Motor Control Centres (MCCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), PLC systems, instrumentation, and industrial process equipment.
  • Experience reading AutoCAD-generated drawings and supporting the RFI and tender process.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while consistently delivering accurate, high-quality estimates within project deadlines.
