Your Role:
As a Business Development Manager, you will:
- Strategic Business Development: Drive new commercial account acquisition through proactive market research, cold calling, and strategic email outreach. Architect high-yield outbound strategies utilizing business directories and digital leads, while mentoring junior reps on pipeline development.
- Lead & Inbox Management Oversight: Monitor and manage multiple local and national sales inboxes, converting incoming leads immediately and optimizing the routing system to assign non-local inquiries to regional branches efficiently.
- Account Defense & Relationship Leadership: Maintain high-level relationships with major local and national accounts. Act as the primary escalation point, reacting with high urgency to defend critical portfolios against competitor poaching.
- Deal Execution & Contract Compliance: Prepare complex, professional commercial proposals, verify application forms, and ensure signed Gas Supply Agreements (GSAs) are processed with 100% accuracy within 48 hours. Oversee team-wide document quality control.
- Sales Tracking, Reporting & Mentorship: Compile detailed weekly, monthly, and quarterly activity logs documenting cold calls, lead conversions, competitor movements, and target metrics. Lead regular team pipeline reviews and performance-tracking syncs.
- Cross-Functional & Finance Liaison: Collaborate directly with the Accounts Department to resolve complex payment issues, manage credit flags, and execute stop-supply escalations for client portfolios. Champion process improvements between sales and finance teams.
- Safety Integration Leadership: Actively support the Company’s Safety Vision by participating in—and leading sales alignment for—formal risk assessments, including HAZOP, HAZID, Management of Change (MOC), and Permit to Work (PTW) protocols.
What You Need:
Non-negotiables
- B2B Outbound Sales Drive & Leadership: Proven success in cold calling, lead qualification, and managing a fast-moving sales pipeline to meet strict monthly KPIs. Demonstrated ability to coach, shadow, and onboard junior sales peers to improve conversion rates.
- Contract and Document Accuracy: High attention to detail required to complete and audit legally binding Gas Supply Agreements and client applications accurately.
- CRM Discipline & Data Strategy: Demonstrated experience maintaining real-time, comprehensive customer interaction logs within an enterprise CRM database, with the ability to pull performance insights and data trends for leadership.
- Target Accountability: A strong track record of consistently meeting or exceeding individual, team, or branch revenue targets.
- Safety Mindset: Willingness to thoroughly learn gas product constraints and actively participate in industrial safety, hazard identification, and emergency response planning.
Preferred skills/expertise
- Prior Industrial Sales Experience: Sales or team lead experience within the industrial gas, chemical, logistics, or commercial hospitality supply sectors.
- Buying Group Networks: Familiarity with the Capricorn network or managing specialized automotive/industrial buying group prospect lists.
- Risk Assessment Frameworks: Hands-on knowledge of technical risk assessment frameworks such as HAZOP, HAZID, or RFSR (Ready for Start-up Review).
- Advanced Negotiation & Conflict Resolution: Exceptional negotiation skills with the ability to manage complex billing disputes, contract deadlocks, and high-value account retention smoothly.
- Sales Tech Stack Optimization: Advanced technical literacy in managing shared sales pipelines, automated task lists, and cross-functional distribution tools.
