Job Summary
Position Overview
The Cash Bank Reconciliation Accountant ensures accurate cash accounting by reconciling bank statements to financial records and maintaining the integrity of balance sheet accounts for a global organization. This role performs monthly close tasks, investigates cash discrepancies, and posts adjusting journal entries to support accurate bank reconciliations and successful financial audits. The position works with Accounts Payable, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, and other departments to ensure cash transactions are posted and reconciled on time. It also supports the audit process by providing organized, timely documentation for cash and bank balances.
Essential Job Functions and Duties
Bank Reconciliations: Prepare timely and accurate monthly reconciliations for multiple bank accounts and legal entities.
Variance Investigation: Investigate and resolve reconciling items including outstanding checks, deposits in transit, ACH returns and discrepancies, unposted direct debits and wires, and bank errors. Escalate unresolved reconciliation issues and collaborate with business partners to ensure timely resolution of outstanding reconciliation items.
General Ledger (GL) Maintenance: Post daily cash transactions, bank fees, interest and adjusting journal entries to the general ledger.
Audit Preparation: Prepare and maintain organized reconciliation documentation, schedules, and spreadsheets to support internal and external audits and reviews.
Business Support: Build and maintain relationships with assigned regional accounting teams, treasury, credit, and accounts payable functions; this is vital for communication channels to ensure timely accounting transactions.
Other General Ledger Reconciliation: Reconcile other GL accounts that are related to cash and bank account posting to confirm cash has been posted correctly.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to standardize cash reconciliation processes, strengthen internal controls, and improve operational efficiency within the Shared Services organization.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
Three to five years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in a multi-regional and multi-currency organization.
Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both written and verbally, and to work with others across the organization to accomplish the objectives of the role and team.
Strong attention to detail, ensuring controls are operating effectively and all accounts are reconciled on time each month.
Experience working under a monthly accounting close timetable and ability to meet deadlines.
Self-directed professional who takes ownership, demonstrates accountability, and actively pursues continuous learning.
Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on increasing process efficiency and strengthening internal controls.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite, including use of pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and some advanced functions where necessary.
Fluency with the Spanish language a plus but not required.
