PP&E (Fixed Assets) Accountant

Job Summary

Position Overview

The Property, Plant and Equipment (PP&E) Accountant is responsible for accurate accounting and reporting of the company’s physical and intangible PP&E across multiple legal entities in a global organization. This role records new asset purchases, tracks depreciation, reconciles subledgers to the general ledger, and manages asset disposals while ensuring compliance with IFRS standards.

Essential Job Functions and Duties

Asset Tracking: Record new property, equipment, and software addition, assign tag numbers and maintain the fixed asset ledger.

Depreciation and Reconciliation: Calculate monthly depreciation, run amortization schedules, and reconcile sub-ledgers to general ledger balance sheets.

Capital vs. Expense: Review project costs, construction-in-progress (CIP), and expense accounts, including repairs and maintenance, to apply capitalization policies and escalate exceptions as needed.

Disposals and Impairments: Process asset retirements, sales or transfers. Test for potential asset impairment or obsolescence.

Audits: Prepare audit schedules and assist external auditors

Insurance and Taxes: Supply PP&E data for insurance statement of value reporting and property tax returns.

Close Support: Actively participate in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including posting journals, completing timely monthly reconciliations, and performing various analytics.

Business Partnering: Partner with procurement, operations, safety, risk management, insurance, and finance teams to improve asset management processes, and ensure accurate PP&E information.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to standardize PP&E processes, strengthen internal controls, and improve operational efficiency. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service quality, consistency, and scalability within the Shared Services organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

  • Four to six years of experience in a general accounting role or specific fixed asset experience, preferably in a multi-regional and multi-currency organization.

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS or GAAP as it relates to fixed assets and long-lived asset accounting.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both written and verbally, and to work with others across the organization to accomplish the objectives of the role and team.

  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring controls are operating effectively, and all accounts are reconciled on time each month.

  • Experience working under a monthly accounting close timetable and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Self-directed professional who takes ownership, demonstrates accountability, and actively pursues continuous learning.

  • Drive to constantly improve process efficiency and control effectiveness.

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite, including use of pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and some advanced functions where necessary.

  • Experience working in a large ERP envrionment (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).

  • Fluency with the Spanish language a plus but not required.
