Position Overview:
The Chief Accountant is responsible for supervising and ensuring the integrity of all
financial transactions, records, and systems within Grand Bloom. This includes overseeing
daily accounting operations, ensuring internal controls, preparing financial reports, and
ensuring compliance with local laws, accounting standards, and hotel policies.
During the pre-opening phase, the Chief Accountant supports system setup, chart of
accounts design, control policy creation, and team onboarding. After opening, the focus
shifts to timely and accurate financial closings, reporting, compliance, and oversight of the
finance team.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
1. Pre-Opening Responsibilities:
Assist in the implementation of accounting systems (e.g., SUN, Opera, FMC, etc.).
Finalize the chart of accounts and mapping of all cost centers with department
heads.
Support the setup of banking relationships, petty cash systems, and cash flow
control processes.
Coordinate training and onboarding of accounting team members.
Establish accounting SOPs, control procedures, and audit checklists.
Participate in the setting up of vendor files, taxation registrations, and statutory
documentation.
2. General Accounting Oversight:
Supervise daily accounting activities across payables, receivables, income audit,
and general ledger.
Review journal entries, accruals, intercompany transactions, and balance sheet
reconciliations.
Ensure all revenue and expenses are properly recorded in the correct period.
Oversee daily revenue summaries, night audit closings, and bank deposits.
Monitor the accuracy of inventory movements, fixed asset entries, and depreciation
schedules.
3. Financial Reporting & Month-End Close:
Ensure timely closing of books monthly in accordance with internal and group
deadlines.
Prepare trial balances, profit & loss accounts, balance sheets, and supporting
schedules.
Reconcile all general ledger accounts and resolve variances before submission.
Prepare audit schedules and assist internal or external auditors during reviews.
4. Compliance & Controls:
Ensure compliance with local tax laws, labor laws, and statutory reporting
requirements.
Monitor and enforce internal controls to safeguard assets, revenues, and
expenditures.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of VAT, payroll taxes, and other statutory
submissions.
Support implementation of recommendations from internal audits and financial
reviews.
5. Treasury & Cash Management:
Oversee cash flow management, including daily cash position, petty cash control,
and banking relationships.
Review daily banking summaries, deposits, and reconciliations.
Coordinate payments and maintain proper documentation for all disbursements.
6. Team Leadership & Coordination:
Supervise, coach, and develop the accounting team.
Review workload distribution, job performance, and training needs of finance team
members.
Coordinate closely with other departments for expense tracking, budget control,
and forecast support.
Reporting:
Reports directly to the Financial Controller / Director of Finance
Supports reporting to ownership or corporate office as required
Coordination:
With Purchasing & Receiving: Supplier invoices, PO matching, accruals
With F&B & Cost Control: Inventory reconciliation, food cost validation
With HR: Payroll support, staff benefits reconciliation
With Front Office: Guest billing, advance deposits, direct billing clearance
With IT: Finance system performance, backups, and security access
With External Auditors: Year-end audits, tax compliance, financial disclosures
Key Competencies:
Deep understanding of financial accounting, tax regulations, and audit processes
Strong attention to accuracy, deadlines, and financial controls
Familiarity with hospitality financial systems (Opera, Sun Systems, FMC, etc.)
Excellent Excel and Financial Reporting Skills
Ability to lead and develop a team
Strong ethics and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial data
The Chief Accountant at Grand Bloom is the financial backbone of the hotel ensuring
precision, control, and compliance in all monetary matters. This role supports decisionmaking, enforces discipline, and upholds the trust placed in the Finance department.
