Location: Baghdad, Iraq.

Language Requirements: Fluency in both Arabic and English (written and spoken).
The ideal candidate will lead the collection, validation, and analysis of data required for effective power system planning and forecasting. This role will support planning activities including electricity demand forecasting, generation source assessment, transmission expansion analysis, and interconnection feasibility studies ensuring all decisions are based on robust and accurate data.
Qualifications
- University degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in power system planning, analysis, and modeling.
- Proven experience in assessing existing electricity demand and preparing reliable demand forecasts.
- Demonstrated capability in developing transmission demand-side management options aligned with Grid Code standards.
- Experience in evaluating potential energy sources for generation development, including cost comparison and feasibility analysis.
- Strong background in power system modeling, including simulating existing grid infrastructure at 400kV, 132kV, and 33kV busbar levels, and identifying operational constraints.
- Skilled in conducting network expansion modeling to align with various generation expansion plans and future demand growth.
- Ability to calculate annual investment requirements and perform net present value (NPV) assessments under different cost assumptions.
- Experience working with clients to estimate annual distribution investment costs, considering factors like load density, equipment condition, and rural electrification plans.
- Expertise in analyzing and preparing cost estimates for grid improvement projects and loss reduction initiatives, both as part of master plans and standalone efforts.
- Proficient in evaluating optimal transmission voltage levels for future planning horizons and recommending appropriate generation unit sizing based on system demand.
- Experience conducting techno-economic studies for power system interconnections, including defining implementation costs and timelines.
- Strong understanding of asset evaluation, including aging infrastructure, retirement planning, upgrades, and refurbishment strategies.
- Proficiency in power system simulation and planning tools (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT).
- Solid knowledge of power system standards, regulatory requirements, and interconnection protocols.
- Familiarity with software development or customization for power systems analysis is an advantage.
